This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.
Sunday Update complete
Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.
Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:
- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.
These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Eli Manning?"
These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.
Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm ET. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.
I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.
Quarterbacks
1. | Lamar Jackson BAL at BUF |
2. | Aaron Rodgers GB vs. WAS |
3. | Deshaun |

Quarterbacks
1. | Lamar Jackson BAL at BUF |
2. | Aaron Rodgers GB vs. WAS |
3. | Deshaun Watson HOU vs. DEN |
4. | Russell Wilson SEA at LAR |
5. | *Patrick Mahomes KC at NE Note: Was backpedaling frequently against the Raiders last week, and it resulted in an underwhelming passing day. |
6. | *Kirk Cousins MIN vs. DET Note: One bad INT against the Seahawks was costly, but all-in-all played well Monday night while having to do without Thielen. |
7. | *Jameis Winston TB vs. IND Note: Bucs coach Bruce Arians refused to comment on Winston's status for 2020. |
8. | Josh Allen BUF vs. BAL |
9. | *Dak Prescott DAL at CHI Note: ***Suffered a sprained left hand and right finger injury in the Thursday night loss to the Bears.*** |
10. | *Ryan Tannehill TEN at OAK Note: Efficient if not prolific day against the Colts, despite getting sacked six times. |
11. | Drew Brees NO vs. SF |
12. | Carson Wentz PHI vs. NYG |
13. | Matt Ryan ATL vs. CAR |
14. | *Sam Darnold NYJ vs. MIA Note: Suffered a knee injury and bruised ribs in the loss to the Bengals - he got sacked four times and was hit nine other times. Full practice Wednesday. |
15. | *Tom Brady NE vs. KC Note: ***(Elbow/Toe) Added to the injury list Thursday, removed from it on Friday.*** |
16. | Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA at NYJ |
17. | Jacoby Brissett IND at TB |
18. | *Baker Mayfield CLE vs. CIN Note: Suffered a hand injury against the Steelers right before halftime, banging it against a pass rusher's helmet. But he returned in the second half and is expected to be ok this week. Limited at practice Wednesday, threw at Thursday's practice and 'looked good' though he still had a protective wrap on his hand. ***Won't require a glove or wrap on his hand for Sunday's game.*** |
19. | *Kyler Murray ARZ vs. PIT Note: Surprisingly awful day against the Rams - only a rushing touchdown made it palatable. |
20. | Jimmy Garoppolo SF at NO |
21. | Jared Goff LA vs. SEA |
22. | *Kyle Allen CAR at ATL Note: Before Ron Rivera was fired Tuesday, he said that Allen would 'absolutely' remain the starter over Will Grier. |
23. | *Andy Dalton CIN at CLE Note: Competent in the win over the Jets - which is a huge upgrade over what the Bengals were getting with Ryan Finley. |
24. | *Eli Manning NYG at PHI Note: Starting Monday night in place of Daniel Jones, who is week-to-week with a high-ankle sprain. |
25. | Philip Rivers LAC at JAX |
26. | *Derek Carr OAK vs. TEN Note: Carr is on a string of four bad games after being a productive fantasy QB earlier this season. |
27. | *Gardner Minshew JAC vs. LAC Note: Took over for Nick Foles last week and was named the starter this week. |
28. | Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. DAL |
29. | *Drew Lock DEN at HOU Note: Got bailed out by Courtland Sutton - but that's sort of the game plan. Could find it tough on the road at Houston this week. |
30. | *David Blough DET at MIN Note: Getting at least one more start, as Jeff Driskel has been placed on IR. Kyle Sloter will be the backup, presuming that Stafford is still out, which I believe is the case. |
31. | *Devlin Hodges PIT at ARI Note: Confirmed starter again this week. |
32. | Dwayne Haskins WAS at GB |
33. | *Matthew Stafford DET at MIN Note: Still considered 'week-to-week.' |
34. | *Daniel Jones NYG at PHI Note: Dealing with a sore ankle, but expected to be 'fine' against the Eagles on Monday night. Not 'fine' after all - has a high-ankle sprain and is in a walking boot. Eli Manning will start in his place. |
35. | *Nick Foles JAC vs. LAC Note: Benched after a horrific first half against the Bucs. |
Running Backs
1. | Christian McCaffrey CAR at ATL |
2. | Ezekiel Elliott DAL at CHI |
3. | *Melvin Gordon LAC at JAX Note: Has averaged 4.7 yards per carry since the change in offensive coordinators. |
4. | *Aaron Jones GB vs. WAS Note: The Giants loaded up to stop Jones last week, and they accomplished that - 11 carries for 18 yards. ***Played through some 'sharp ankle pain' last week, but isn't anywhere on the injury list this week.*** |
5. | *Derrick Henry TEN at OAK Note: (Hamstring) Did not practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. ***Full practice Friday, cleared from the injury list.*** |

7. | Alvin Kamara NO vs. SF |
8. | *Dalvin Cook MIN vs. DET Note: Forced out Monday night with a right shoulder injury - after the game he said that he'll 'definitely be ready to go' this week. Official injury is listed as a chest injury. Limited practice Wednesday and Thursday, but he's adamant that he'll play. ***Cleared from the injury list.*** |
9. | Leonard Fournette JAC vs. LAC |
10. | *Chris Carson SEA at LAR Note: Had an early concussion scare, but later returned to run for 102 yards and a touchdown. |
11. | Nick Chubb CLE vs. CIN |
12. | Devin Singletary BUF vs. BAL |
13. | Joe Mixon CIN at CLE |
14. | Devonta Freeman ATL vs. CAR |
15. | *Todd Gurley LA vs. SEA Note: ***Heavy workload two of the last three weeks, likely to continue this week.*** |
16. | James White NE vs. KC |
17. | Mark Ingram BAL at BUF |
18. | *Benny Snell Jr. PIT at ARI Note: Head of the committee again with James Conner out again this week. |
19. | *Miles Sanders PHI vs. NYG Note: Ran well (17-for-83) but the Eagles went away from the run in the second half, much to their chagrin. |
20. | Austin Ekeler LAC at JAX |
21. | David Montgomery CHI vs. DAL |
22. | *Phillip Lindsay DEN at HOU Note: Could be in line for more work with Royce Freeman nursing a rib injury. |
23. | *Raheem Mostert SF at NO Note: Had a lot of juice against the Ravens, making the case for him to be the Niners' lead back. Moved down a couple of spots with Breida returning to full practice. |
24. | *Derrius Guice WAS at GB Note: Looked great against Carolina, running 10 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. |
25. | Carlos Hyde HOU vs. DEN |
26. | Kenyan Drake ARZ vs. PIT |
27. | *Marlon Mack IND at TB Note: (Hand) Remains in the 'monitoring' phase during practice this week, before determining whether Mack will be able to play. Full practice Thursday after a limited practice Wednesday - appears likely to play. ***Colts will use a rotation - it 'won't be a big pitch count' for Mack.*** |
28. | *Bilal Powell NYJ vs. MIA Note: ***Big bump up with Lev Bell ruled out.*** |
29. | *Josh Jacobs OAK vs. TEN Note: Did not practice Wednesday and Thursday, and it was revealed that he's been playing with a fractured right shoulder since Oct. 20. ***Limited practice Friday, considered a true game-time decision.*** |
30. | *Alexander Mattison MIN vs. DET Note: Filled in capably after Dalvin Cook's injury. Even if Cook plays this week, you have to think that Mattison will get more work than usual. |
31. | *Rashaad Penny SEA at LAR Note: Very effective in a two-back system on Monday night. |
32. | *Ronald Jones TB vs. IND Note: Benched after missing a blitz pickup early in the win over the Jags. Reinstated atop the depth chart, but last week's benching revealed how tenuous his spot is. |
33. | Kareem Hunt CLE vs. CIN |
34. | *Bo Scarbrough DET at MIN Note: Kerryon Johnson (knee) has been designated to return from IR, but isn't eligible to play again until Week 16. |
35. | *Sony Michel NE vs. KC Note: Limited to 10 carries and took a backseat to James White once the Pats fell behind. |
36. | *LeSean McCoy KC at NE Note: Potentially bypassed by Darwin Thompson. |
37. | *Tevin Coleman SF at NO Note: Took a backseat to Raheem Mostert against the Ravens, and Matt Breida could return this week, further clouding his outlook. |
38. | *Peyton Barber TB vs. IND Note: Still No. 2 on the depth chart, according to coach Bruce Arians on Wednesday. |
39. | *Patrick Laird MIA at NYJ Note: Became the lead back after Ballage got hurt. |
40. | Duke Johnson HOU vs. DEN |
41. | *Adrian Peterson WAS at GB Note: (Toe) In an effective timeshare with Derrius Guice - both scored and ran well against the Carolina sieve-like run defense. Sat out practice Thursday - seemingly another veteran rest day. ***Removed from the injury report.*** |
42. | *Darwin Thompson KC at NE Note: It should be natural for Andy Reid to select Thompson as his starter this week, but that decision hasn't come yet. The signing of Spencer Ware could complicate matters, but it also suggests that Williams and Williams will be out. |
43. | Gus Edwards BAL at BUF |
44. | *Jalen Richard OAK vs. TEN Note: ***Josh Jacobs is considered a true game-time decision. Even if Jacobs plays, Richard should get more touches than usual.*** |
45. | Tarik Cohen CHI vs. DAL |
46. | Latavius Murray NO vs. SF |
47. | Nyheim Hines IND at TB |
48. | *Jamaal Williams GB vs. WAS Note: Limited at Thursday's practice with a knee injury. If he can't go, the Packers other backups behind Aaron Jones are Dexter Williams and Tyler Ervin, who they just acquired. ***Practice reps capped on Friday, but he will play.*** |
49. | J.D. McKissic DET at MIN |
50. | *Royce Freeman DEN at HOU Note: Limited at Wednesday's practice with a rib injury. ***Full practice Thursday.*** |
51. | Jaylen Samuels PIT at ARI |
52. | *Matt Breida SF at NO Note: (Ankle) The Niners are optimistic that Breida can return this week. Full practice Wednesday. ***Removed from the injury report.*** |

54. | DeAndre Washington OAK vs. TEN |
55. | *David Johnson ARZ vs. PIT Note: Limited to six touches in the loss to the Rams, but at least he was the second back behind Kenyan Drake. |
56. | Malcolm Brown LA vs. SEA |
57. | Frank Gore BUF vs. BAL |
58. | *Jordan Wilkins IND at TB Note: Led the Colts in carries last week. |
59. | Qadree Ollison ATL vs. CAR |
60. | Ty Johnson DET at MIN |
61. | Chris Thompson WAS at GB |
62. | Rex Burkhead NE vs. KC |
63. | Myles Gaskin MIA at NYJ |
64. | Giovani Bernard CIN at CLE |
65. | Brian Hill ATL vs. CAR |
66. | Dion Lewis TEN at OAK |
67. | *Jonathan Williams IND at TB Note: Benched for the second half as a 'coach's decision.' I'm guessing that Williams would be the odd man out if Mack returns. ***Will dress, but probably fourth in the pecking order.*** |
68. | *Chase Edmonds ARZ vs. PIT Note: No offensive snaps in his first game back. |
69. | *Damien Williams KC at NE Note: (Ribs) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Ruled out this week.*** |

73. | *James Conner PIT at ARI Note: (Shoulder) Improving, but 'questionable as we stand here today.' Admitted on Thursday that he won't play this week. ***Officially ruled out.*** |
74. | *Darrel Williams KC at NE Note: (Hamstring) Left in the third quarter and could miss this week. Placed on IR. |
75. | *Kalen Ballage MIA at NYJ Note: Placed on IR with a leg injury. Patrick Laird and Myles Gaskin should take the lead in his absence, but Miami also claimed Zach Zenner off waivers. |

17. | *Jarvis Landry CLE vs. CIN Note: (Hip) Limited practice Thursday. ***Does not have an injury designation.*** |

35. | Anthony Miller CHI vs. DAL |
36. | Sterling Shepard NYG at PHI |
37. | John Brown BUF vs. BAL |
38. | *Christian Kirk ARZ vs. PIT Note: Mea culpa - I didn't think that the Cards offense would no-show so badly, and that Kirk would get shut down by Jalen Ramsey as he did. |

40. | DK Metcalf SEA at LAR |
41. | *A.J. Brown TEN at OAK Note: (Calf) Added to the injury report Thursday. ***Cleared from the injury report.*** |

60. | Darius Slayton NYG at PHI |

62. | Carlos Hyde HOU vs. DEN |
63. | Kenyan Drake ARZ vs. PIT |
64. | *Marlon Mack IND at TB Note: (Hand) Remains in the 'monitoring' phase during practice this week, before determining whether Mack will be able to play.
