March 24, 2022
Hurns (wrist) has been released by the Dolphins with a failed physical designation.
ANALYSIS
Hurns, who opted out of the 2020 season, also missed missed the 2021 campaign after undergoing wrist surgery in August. If the 30-year-old can reprove his health in the coming months, the wideout could catch on with another team and compete for a roster spot in that context, but for now Hurns is off the fantasy radar.

Hurns may have competed for a starting role in 2020 had he not opted out due to concerns related to COVID-19, but he'll begin the 2021 campaign buried on Miami's depth chart. The 29-year-old looks like he'll need to compete with the likes of Robert Foster, Mack Hollins, Malcolm Perry and Albert Wilson for limited reserve spots.
Hurns began the 2019 campaign in a part-time role and was elevated to the No. 2 receiver role alongside DeVante Parker after Preston Williams suffered an ACL tear in Week 9. The 28-year-old had an efficient season with a 68.1 percent catch rate and 8.9 yards per target, but he never topped five catches or 68 yards in any one game, ultimately catching 32 passes on 522 offensive snaps. Hurns signed a two-year extension in November, but subsequently elected to opt out of the 2020 season.
Hurns signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys last offseason but did very little to earn his salary. He did play in all 16 games for the first time since he was a rookie in 2014, but he caught only 20 passes on 35 targets for 295 yards, all career lows. He then suffered a severe ankle injury during the playoffs, and later was cut by the Cowboys in July after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a pay cut. Hurns will now test the open market, hoping to find a better offer.
With Dez Bryant gone, Hurns profiles as the team's No. 1 WR, a surprising turn of events for a former undrafted free agent who had fallen down the depth chart in Jacksonville last summer. Hurns had a solid year in 10 games, and he put up big numbers in 2015 - 9.8 YPT and 10 TDs. At 6-3, 201, Hurns has decent size, and he's made plays downfield in his career despite not having good timed speed - 4.54 40. Hurns will play opposite the unspectacular Terrance Williams (who is recovering from foot surgery and was arrested in May), and with Jason Witten retiring, Hurns could be Dak Prescott's best weapon. But the offense will still revolve around Ezekiel Elliott, and Prescott might be more of a game manager than a gunslinger.
Hurns' dismal year was mercifully cut short by a hamstring injury that cost him five games. To that point, he hadn't done much -- 6.3 YPT, one catch for 40 yards, only three scores -- as the entire Jaguars passing game had fallen apart. It was a stark contrast from 2015, when Hurns averaged 9.8 YPT and scored 10 times. At 6-3, 201, Hurns has decent size, and before last year had been able to make big plays down the field despite his lack of timed speed (4.54 40.) Hurns sees occasional red-zone work, but Allen Robinson is the first read when the offense gets close. Hurns is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp, but his injury and down year opened the door for Marqise Lee to emerge as a contender for targets opposite Robinson. None of this will matter, of course, unless the team gets vastly improved play from its quarterbacks.
Hurns had two big games as a rookie, in Weeks 1 and 9, but otherwise the undrafted free agent wasn't a regular part of the team's offense. That changed in Year 2, as Hurns became the clear complement to Allen Robinson and scored 10 touchdowns. Hurns was also among the most efficient pass catchers in the league – his 16.1 YPC and 9.8 YPT both ranked fourth among the league's 32 100-target receivers. At 6-3, 205, Hurns has good length, and while he ran only a 4.54 40, he seems to play faster in pads – seven catches of 40-plus on 202 targets the last two years. Robinson is still the team's go-to target in the red zone (21 looks in that area to Hurns' 15, and 14 inside the 10 to Hurns' eight), and it's likely the Jaguars will run more often from in close this year, in part due to the Chris Ivory signing and in part due to regression to the mean (Jacksonville had 35 TD passes and only five on the ground.) Still, even if Marqise Lee and Julius Thomas finally stay healthy this year, Hurns has established himself as the No. 2 option on a pass-happy team. Hurns underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia in February, but took part in full drills in May and is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp.
Hurns came out of nowhere to haul in four catches for 110 yards and two scores in Week 1. After that, he was mostly quiet until Week 9 at Cincinnati where he repeated the act, going 7-112-2 before going largely back into obscurity. Given the team's anemic passing attack (31st in yards and YPA), any spark is a positive sign, and Hurns should slot in as the No. 3 receiver behind Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee. At 6-3, 195, Hurns has decent size, and while his 4.54 40 time was below average, he made four catches of 40-plus on 97 targets, so perhaps he plays faster in pads.
Hurns has quickly gone from a relatively unknown UDFA to a roster lock with the potential to contribute out of the gate in the Jags' offense.

Fighting for roster spot
WRMiami Dolphins
July 6, 2021
Hurns may have a tough time earning a spot on Miami's season-opening roster, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hurns opted out of the 2020 campaign and is back in the fold for the Dolphins this season, but he'll enter training camp facing long odds to crack the roster. Five wideouts -- DeVante Parker, Will Fuller (suspension), Jaylen Waddle, Preston Williams (foot) and Lynn Bowden -- have fairly secure roster spots, leaving minimal room at the position for additional bodies if everyone stays healthy. Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson and Mack Hollins will also be in the position battle. Hurns appeared in 14 games for the Dolphins in 2019 and caught 32 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns, but he may need a strong showing in camp and some good fortune to stick around into the regular season.
