Decides to retire
Cohen informed the Jets on Thursday that he's retiring from football, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old last played in a game Week 3 of 2020, when he suffered an ACL tear that cost him the rest of that season and all of the next one. He suffered an Achilles' tear in spring of 2022 and spent most of 2023 with Carolina's practice squad, but reports out of Jets training camp this summer suggested Cohen had regained some of his old explosiveness and was a viable candidate for return work. Xavier Gipson remains the most likely Jet to make an impact there, and Cohen may have sensed that he was unlikely to earn a roster spot as a backup return specialist without much value on offense. Whatever the case, he's retiring after a week of training camp practices.

The Bryce Young-era in Carolina got off to a rocky start, to say the least. With better skill talent around him this season, he seems better positioned to fulfill his status as the No. 1 draft pick from 2023.
Isaiah Spiller may not be thrilled with waiting until the fourth round, but he's still one of the rookie running backs with a chance to have a fantasy impact early on.
The Chiefs are restocking after the Tyreek Hill trade, but there are still new challenges ahead for Patrick Mahomes.
While all eyes are on Aaron Rodgers, the Vikings and Lions also face touch decisions on how to proceed with veteran QBs.

Cohen's 2020 season lasted three games before a collision on a punt return resulted in a torn ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the year. Heading into his fifth NFL campaign, it's not clear where the pass-catching specialist fits into Chicago's offense. David Montgomery established himself as a three-down weapon in Cohen's absence, and the team added another versatile backfield option in Damien Williams during the offseason. That creates a lot of competition for targets, even if Cohen is still the best of the trio at that aspect of the game. On the bright side, the Bears' passing game as a whole should be improved, or at least more consistent, with first-round pick Justin Fields and veteran Andy Dalton replacing the scattershot Mitchell Trubisky at the top of the QB depth chart. Plus, the front office didn't add any other significant receivers to the mix at wide receiver or tight end, instead banking on improvement from WR Darnell Mooney and TE Cole Kmet. Assuming he's 100 percent recovered from his knee injury, Cohen offers speed and elusiveness in the open field that no one else on the roster can match, even if his lack of size or power means he needs to gain most of his yards before contact, not after a defender has gotten their hands on him.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Announces retirement Thursday
Cohen, who'd last played in a regular-season game in 2020 due to various injuries, informed the Jets on Thursday that he's decided to retire, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2017 fourth-round pick of the Bears was making a comeback attempt with the Jets this offseason and training camp, and head coach Robert Saleh had recently indicated Cohen looked like he'd gotten his trademark shiftiness back after suffering a multi-ligament knee tear, fractured tibial plateau and an Achilles tear within a three-year period. Cohen finishes his NFL career with 1,101 rushing yards, 1,575 receiving yards, 1,613 return yards and 15 total touchdowns across 51 regular-season games.
