Rest-of-Season Projections
Accepts coaching position
Chicago announced Feb. 23 that Griffin has been added to the coaching staff in an assistant role, signaling the end of his playing career, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 34-year-old Griffin didn't play in the NFL in 2023, but he still kept his career going abroad, as he had played for the Varese Skorpions of the Italian Football League. Griffin has since returned stateside, but he'll be working with the Bears quarterbacks this offseason rather than competing for a roster spot. The signal-caller spent time in the NFL with the Saints and Buccaneers from 2013 through 2022, serving primarily as a third-string quarterback or practice-squad member over his decade-long run in the professional ranks. He appeared in just three NFL games during his career and completed two of four pass attempts for 18 yards.

Despite landing the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Bears didn't use it, instead turning it into WR DJ Moore and other assets. QB Justin Fields now is positioned to take the next step in his development.
Carson Wentz is without Jahan Doston, but the Bears corners can't cover Terry McLaurin or Curtis Samuel.

Six years into his NFL career, Griffin has yet to throw his first regular-season pass. The 29-year-old actually served as the No. 2 quarterback on both the front and back ends of the 2018 campaign, yet game action still eluded him. Griffin enters 2019 with his best chance yet to open the season as the primary backup to Jameis Winston, needing to only beat out journeyman Blaine Gabbert this summer for that distinction. Gabbert may have the upper hand when it comes to experience in coach Bruce Arians' offensive system, having operated under it for one season in 2017 with the Cardinals. Whether that will be enough to hold off Griffin remains to be seen, with the question set to be definitively answered in training camp and the preseason. However, even if Griffin does secure the No. 2 role, it would almost assuredly take an injury to Jameis Winston for him to see any meaningful playing time.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be kept under wraps
Griffin could be kept separate from position mates Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert during training camp as a COVID-19-related security precaution on the part of coach Bruce Arians, Eduardo Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Arians raised the possibility of quarantining his No. 3 quarterback separate from his top two players at the position when training camp beings next month during an appearance on Chris Long's "Green Light" podcast. The Buccaneers head man could have the luxury of deploying such a strategy due to the fact both Gabbert and Griffin have experience in his system and he considers each "really sharp" when it comes to command of his offense. Despite the fact Griffin served as 2019 starter Jameis Winston's primary backup, he's projected to revert to the No. 3 role he's held throughout the majority of his career with Gabbert having recovered from the shoulder injury that sidelined him all of last season.
