ANALYSIS
Thompson joined the Raiders on Aug. 12 after being let go by the Seahawks in April. He registered six carries for 28 yards in two preseason games. The 2019 sixth-round pick out of Utah State will look for opportunities elsewhere once he clears waivers.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2020
2019
Selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Thompson has produced very little in his first two NFL seasons. In fact, outside of his 14 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown and seven catches for another six yards and a score in Week 17 when starters rested, Thompson played just 31 offensive snaps and carried the ball only 13 times in 2020. His path to carries isn't any clearer this season behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon. He's likely competing with Elijah McGuire and Derrick Gore depth slotting.
Thompson joined the Chiefs as a sixth-round pick in 2019 and was considered by many a sleeper candidate to carve out a role in the team's backfield. That never really materialized, as Thompson managed just 37 carries for 128 yards (3.5 YPC) and a touchdown, adding nine grabs on 10 targets for another 43 yards. His outlook for 2020 appeared bleak after the Chiefs added Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but things brightened up a bit once Damien Williams opted out of the 2020 season. Even so, Thompson will compete with Darrel Williams for reps behind the rookie.
If any rookie running back is positioned to be a sleeper this season, it might be Thompson. With a fire-hydrant build at 5-8, 200, the sixth-round pick out of Utah State runs with impressive power and a low center of gravity, making him a threat to bulldoze his way for yards between the tackles. He also has good hands and could develop into a solid route-runner, important traits in an Andy Reid offense. He hasn't shown much in the way of speed or elusiveness and might not be a big-play threat, but the Chiefs' backfield is topped by a player with minimal experience as an NFL lead back in Damian Williams, along with an aging LeSean McCoy. If Thompson can outperform either during the season, he could find himself with a significant role in one of the league's most potent attacks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could make Seattle's roster
RBSeattle Seahawks
April 16, 2023
Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times believes Thompson has a decent chance of making Seattle's 53-man roster in 2023.
ANALYSIS
After Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer signed with the Eagles and Bears, respectively, Seattle's left with only Kenneth Walker, DeeJay Dallas and Thompson in the backfield. The Seahawks could add a running back in the draft or via free agency, but Thompson should at least have a chance to compete for the No. 3 running back role in camp. Thompson mustered 225 rushing yards for the Chiefs between the 2019 and 2020 seasons but hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since then.
