Joins Detroit's practice squad

Ficken has landed on the Lions' practice squad.
ANALYSIS
Ficken started the season in Tennessee but subsequently landed on its injured reserve with a groin injury. Both parties eventually reached an injury settlement and he was waived from IR. He tried out with Jacksonville prior to landing in Detroit, so his groin issue is seemingly behind him. He will now look to make an impression on the practice squad while waiting for an opportunity to get called up.

The Jets actually waived Ficken after he missed two kicks (both blocked) Week 16 last season only to re-sign him a few days later. He's made only 35 of 48 field-goal attempts (72.9 percent) in a four-year career, so it won't be any big surprise if undrafted rookie Chris Naggar ends up winning the job. New Jets coach Robert Saleh said he felt good enough about Naggar to release veteran kicker Chase McLaughlin.
In 15 games for the Jets last season, Ficken made 19 of his 27 field-goal attempts. The 27-year-old will look to retain the team's kicking job after defeating Brett Maher in a camp competition. If Ficken holds on to the job, his fantasy appeal will be largely tied to the development of franchise QB Sam Darnold, and in turn, the Jets offense as a whole.
Mason Crosby has been the kicker in Green Bay since 2008, but he struggled a bit the last two years - mightily in a Week 5 loss a year ago - and the Packers decided to give him some competition. Enter Ficken, who appeared in two games each of the last two seasons for the Rams. Ficken has made just half of his six attempts in NFL games, so he's not the strongest of competitors, and will really need to perform during training camp to have a realistic shot of supplanting Crosby.
Ficken re-signed with the Rams this spring, but he's no threat to incumbent starter Greg Zuerlein, who tied for the 10th-most single-season points in NFL history last season. In fact, it's not certain Ficken would be back with the team if Zuerlein wasn't recovering from December back surgery. There's only value here if Greg the Leg suffers some kind of setback.

Set to take over as Jets kicker
KFree Agent
September 10, 2019
Ficken is expected to sign with the Jets following his workout with the team Tuesday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets auditioned five kickers Tuesday as the team elected to look in a new direction at the position following Kaare Vedvik's costly missed field-goal and extra-point attempt in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bills. Ficken apparently stood out the most of the five competitors and will likely be officially added to the 53-man roster Wednesday. The 26-year-old, who lost out on Green Bay's kicking job to Mason Crosby in the preseason, is slated to make his Jets debut Monday night versus the Browns.
