Wilkins remains in Tennessee after spending the latter half of the 2021 season on the team's practice squad. He maintained a part-time role out of the Colts' backfield during the early portions of his career, but Wilkins has failed to log a carry in a regular season game since Week 14 of the 2020 campaign. He'll likely need a rash of injuries in the Titans' backfield to make an impact this upcoming season, as Derrick Henry, Dontrell Hilliard and Hassan Haskins all figure to slot in ahead of Wilkins on the depth chart.
Over the course of 15 appearances in 2020, Wilkins logged 84 carries for 308 yards and a touchdown while also securing 12 of his 16 targets for 105 yards. The 26-year-old is back for a fourth season in the Colts backfield, but Wilkins clearly defers to starter Jonathan Taylor on early downs, and Nyheim Hines is the team's preferred option on passing situations. Wilkins' one-cut style can be effective, but Marlon Mack also is back from an injury and set to compete for complementary work. Wilkins' volume and fantasy relevance thus hinge on the health and availability of those above him on the depth chart.
Wilkins finished the 2019 season with 51 carries for 307 yards and two TDs while catching seven passes for 43 yards in 14 regular-season games, but his role this season figures to diminish, with Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines still around and the Colts having taken promising Jonathan Taylor in the second round of April's draft. In that context, Wilkins slots in as the Colts' No. 4 back, which gives him no clear path to touches until or unless injuries hit the team's backfield.
Wilkins had his moments in his first NFL campaign last year, running for a season-high 61 yards on 10 carries Week 2 and busting out a 53-yard dash on his only tote Week 10, but for the most part he found himself taking a back seat to Marlon Mack and fellow rookie Nyheim Hines in 2018. Wilkins' best asset is his speed, but a lack of power or elusiveness means he needs to be schemed open rather than having the ability to create extra yards for himself. Fortunately, that's not a big problem on a Colts squad with one of the league's best offensive lines, but the Mississippi product needs to improve as a receiver and pass blocker if he wants to get on the field more often. Indianapolis also added Spencer Ware to the backfield mix this offseason, putting more pressure on Wilkins to take a step forward. A poor showing this summer could place the second-year pro on the roster bubble in Indianapolis.
A fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft, Wilkins broke out in his final season at Mississippi, leaving would-be tacklers in the dust to gain yards in big chunks. More than 10 percent of his runs last year went for at least 15 yards, a better rate than Alvin Kamara's NFL-leading 9.2 percent. At 6-1, 217, Wilkins doesn't run with much power and doesn't gain many yards after contact. He's also unproven as a receiver and his pass-protection skills need a lot of work, potentially limiting his snaps as a pro. Indianapolis heads into the season without an established lead back, opening the door for Wilkins to carve out a big role with an impressive training camp, but he could just as easily find himself stuck firmly on the bench behind Marlon Mack, Robert Turbin and Nyheim Hines.

Works out for Atlanta

The Falcons worked out Wilkins on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilkins ended last season on the Titans' practice squad, but he was released by Tennessee in the middle of August. The Falcons just placed Damien Williams on IR and don't have a lot of depth behind Cordarrelle Patterson, so Wilkins may get an opportunity to continue his career in Atlanta. The 2018 fifth-round pick ran for at least 300 yards and one touchdown in each of his first three seasons in the NFL with the Colts.
