Kenny Stills

Stills has always been a big-play threat and an efficient per-play receiver, but his usage under coach Adam Gase - like everyone else's - was so erratic you could rarely count on him. Now Gase is in New York, and the Dolphins have former Patriots' assistants Brian Flores (head coach) and Chad O'Shea (offensive coordinator) calling the shots. Neither coach has a track record on which we can rely, so how Stills and the other Dolphins wideouts (notably DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant) split the targets remains to be seen, but there will almost certainly be more role definition than there had been in the Gase era. At 6-1, 202, Stills has decent size and 4.38 40 speed. He's had at least two catches of 40-plus yards every year of his career, including 2018 when he saw only 64 targets in 15 games. He looked like a starter in three-wide sets along with Parker and Wilson, but the Dolphins traded him to the Texans along with offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, netting a pair of first-round draft picks, so Stills will be a competitor for snaps in the slot with the habitually injured Keke Coutee.

Stills has been a nice find for the Dolphins, making big plays and proving more durable than teammate DeVante Parker. Stills managed 8.1 YPT last season - respectable given the substandard QB play and the fact he was playing with a torn finger tendon after Week 3. Stills also scored six times despite minimal red-zone work. At 6-1, 196, Stills has slightly above average height, and he's fast - 4.38 40. He's generated 19 receptions of 40-plus yards in his career and should be the Dolphins' downfield playmaker no matter how the rest of the depth chart shakes out. Parker is healthy again this offseason and slated to be the team's top dog, but Jarvis Landry's 161 targets are gone, and it remains to be seen whether free-agent signees Albert Wilson and Danny Amendola will fill the void. In short, there's opportunity here for Stills, and he should get a slight QB upgrade with the return of Ryan Tannehill.

After a disappointing first season with the Dolphins, Stills rebounded last year under new coach Adam Gase, becoming the team's field stretcher with 17.3 YPC (2nd among the league's 60 80-target WR), 9.0 YPT (11th) and four catches of 40 or more yards. At 6-0, 195, Stills has only average size, but he's actually big for someone who runs a 4.32 40 -- most downfield burners are of the DeSean Jackson/Brandin Cooks build. Stills wasn't used much in the red zone -- only nine targets -- so if he's going to score, it'll be from deep. The Dolphins are deep at receiver, though, with Jarvis Landry locked in as the team's top target and former first round pick DeVante Parker looking more fit this offseason. Moreover, the team added tight end Julius Thomas, who had his best years with Gase in Denver, so Stills' role is unlikely to grow. He might not mind the transition from Ryan Tannehill to Jay Cutler, as the latter typically hasn't been shy about taking shots deep downfield.

Stills was brought to Miami last season to provide the deep presence the team was missing when it traded Mike Wallace. That plan didn't work out all that well as Stills underperformed, catching only 27 balls for 440 yards. However, this season he likely won't feature as prominently on the radar of opposing defenses with Jarvis Landry's star growing and the up-and-coming DeVante Parker keeping defensive coaches up at night. As a result, Stills could rediscover some of his big-play ability thanks to more favorable matchups this season.

A per-play superstar in New Orleans on limited volume his first two years, Stills could get a shot at a bigger role now that he's in Miami. He averaged an impressive 12.8 YPT on 50 targets as a rookie and then 11.1 YPT on 84 last year (keep in mind T.Y. Hilton led the NFL with 10.3 YPT among 100-target WR last year), albeit with Drew Brees under center, rather than the improving but still erratic Ryan Tannehill. At 6-0, 194, Stills has just average size, but runs a blazing 4.38 40 and caught six passes of 40-plus yards a year ago (T-4th) despite the modest volume. While Stills will be used as a field stretcher, the extent of his role beyond that is less clear after the Dolphins used the 14th overall pick on DeVante Parker, who might not be ready for Week 1 because of a foot injury. Jarvis Landry will almost certainly have a significant role as a possession receiver, and tight end Jordan Cameron will also get his looks, meaning Stills will have to battle Parker, when he's healthy, and free-agent signee Greg Jennings

Stills sure made the most of his limited opportunities in his rookie year. Prorate his production on 50 targets to 150, and you’d get 96 catches for 1923 yards and 15 touchdowns. But that’s what happens when you average 20 YPC and 12.8 YPT (1st by a mile among the league’s 90 50-target WR). At 6-0, 190, Stills has only average size, and he’s not likely to be much of a red-zone presence – only two of his 50 targets were from inside the 20 last year, and Marques Colston and Jimmy Graham are far more suited to that work. But Stills can fly – he ran a 4.38 40 – and the Saints will at a minimum use him to stretch the field again like they did last year. While rookie Brandin Cooks is likely to fill the Darren Sproles/Lance Moore role this year, their departure left a 140-target void, and some of those should spill over to Stills.

Taken in the fifth round of this year's draft, Stills is expected to play as the Saints' No. 3 wide receiver receiver. As glamorous as it sounds to be a top-three wideout on the league's No. 1 passing offense, keep in mind how much production goes to the tight ends and backs – so much so that even the No. 1 wideout, Marques Colston is rarely top 10. Still, the 6-0, 190-pound Stills has plenty of speed (4.39 40) and could be used to stretch the field the way former Saint Devery Henderson did the last few years, making him an intriguing sleeper in deeper leagues.
