Cut by Houston
Finley was waived by the Texans on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Finley had been traded from Cincinnati to Houston in March, but the Texans also brought in Jeff Driskel and preferred what they saw in Driskel. Originally selected by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft, Finley will be subject to waivers before he's free to sign with another team.

Finley got the starting nod for three games in 2019 in an attempt to see if the Bengals had much to work with in the post-Andy Dalton era, or if instead they'd have to allocate a significant draft asset to secure their future quarterback. Alas for Finley, Door No. 2 was the correct answer. In his three games, Finley completed 41 of 87 passes for 474 yards, good for 5.4 yards per attempt. Not too much was expected when they took Finley in the fourth round as a 24-year old rookie, and "not too much" was what they received. Finley will serve as Joe Burrow's primary backup in 2020, and the Bengals sincerely hope they won't have to break glass in the case of emergency to use Finley.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Heading back to bench for now
Finley is returning to a backup role with Andy Dalton having been named Cincinnati's starting quarterback for Week 13's matchup against the Jets, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The likelihood that Finley was going to be overmatched as a rookie quarterback playing on a talent-deficient offense was very high, but coach Zac Taylor decided to roll the North Carolina State product out for a three-game stint in the top job anyhow. The experiment didn't exactly go well, as evidenced by Finley's 47.1 percent completion rate and the team's 0-3 record during his time under center. Dalton will likely remain the starter for what remains of the campaign, but given the high probability the team will move on from the veteran this offseason, Finley could have a chance to compete for the starting job next summer.
