2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mattison did well as a backup in his first four NFL seasons and seemed well-situated going into 2023 without Dalvin Cook ahead of him on the depth chart. Instead, Mattison's one-year stint as a starter for the Vikings went about as poorly as possible. Fumbles, dropped passes and short-yardage suddenly became issues, in addition to his longstanding lack of speed/explosiveness. Ty Chandler took over as Minnesota's lead back down the stretch, and Mattison then signed a one-year, $2 million contract with Las Vegas this offseason. The deal is mostly guaranteed and thus gives him strong odds of making the Week 1 roster, but that doesn't mean he'll challenge Zamir White for the starting job or even be a lock for the second spot on the depth chart. The other RBs competing for roles, namely sixth-round rookie Dylan Laube and 31-year-old Ameer Abdullah, might be better options than both White and Mattison for passing situations. Opens week with full practice
Mattison (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattison's full participation in practice to kick off Week 15 prep clears the way for him to put an end to his three-game absence Monday against the Falcons, but he'll likely find himself in a smaller role than he enjoyed prior to missing time with the ankle injury. Per Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site, head coach Antonio Pierce announced Wednesday that Sincere McCormick will remain the team's starting running back moving forward, which likely means Mattison will see a reduction in the 9.7 carries per game he had averaged for the season before suffering the injury. McCormick hasn't shown much prowess as a receiver, however, so Mattison could be called upon to replace him on passing downs after averaging a healthy 9.8 yards per reception prior to his recent absence.

After four years of backing up Dalvin Cook, Mattison will get his starting shot this season as Cook was released in June. Still only 25, Mattison should have fresh legs thanks to a light workload over the years -- in fact, he had career-low 89 touches last year because Cook stayed healthy for a full season for the first time. While Mattison lacks breakaway speed (4.67 40, career 4.1 YPC), he's familiar with the offense, has the frame to handle large workloads (215 pounds) and even boasts a strong track record as a receiver (career catch rate of 83.3 percent at 6.3 YPT). He also has just two fumbles on 474 career touches, so he's as good as anyone at protecting the ball. Rookie seventh-round pick DeWayne McBride might have something on Mattison as a pure runner, but McBride has no history as a pass catcher and fumbled five times in 2022 alone. That should help ensure Mattison is a three-down back.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance for lead role Week 5
Mattison could be poised to lead Vegas' backfield against the Broncos in Week 5, as Zamir White purportedly suffered a groin injury in practice Wednesday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattison has been far more efficient than White all season, averaging 5.1 yards per carry to White's 3.1, so Mattison had already been making a strong case for additional touches through his play. If White's injury sidelines him Sunday or limits his role, Mattison could become the focal point of a Raiders offense that's likely to be without Davante Adams, who is recovering from a hamstring injury and has demanded a trade.
