2024 Fantasy Outlook
Maher was 28 years old when he got his first shot as a starting placekicker in the NFL, catching on with the Cowboys in 2019 and then spending three of the next four seasons in Dallas. He moved on to the Rams last offseason but didn't last long, missing six field goals and one PAT in seven games before the team released him and signed Lucas Havrisik. The replacement proved no better, and Maher eventually was re-signed to kick in Week 18 and a playoff loss to Detroit. Now a free agent, Maher figures to sign somewhere before training camp -- possibly back in Los Angeles -- but will either be coming in as a backup or part of a job competition. Read Past Outlooks
Struggles with misses in 2023
Maher connected on 17 of 23 field-goal attempts and 13 of 15 PATs during the 2023 regular season.
ANALYSIS
In replacing long-time kicker Matt Gay, Maher's first run as the Rams' starting kicker lasted seven games, coming to a close after a Week 7 contest against the Steelers in which he missed two field goals and a PAT. The veteran kicker was released and replaced by Lucas Havrisik, who also failed to make an impact and was waived in Week 17 after five missed field goals and three missed PAT's of his own in nine games. Maher signed back with the Rams before a Week 18 contest against the 49ers and ended up missing an extra point in his return. Maher, an unrestricted free agent in 2024, did put up a perfect performance during Sunday's wild-card loss to the Lions in which he contributed three field goals and two extra points, but he likely won't return to a Rams team that will look to find a more reliable option to handle kicking duties, perhaps via the draft.

After struggling with accuracy early in his career, Maher put it all together in 2022 and went 29-for-32 on field goals and 51-for-53 on PATs in Dallas, tying for third among kickers in fantasy scoring. He also hit 9 of 11 tries from 50-plus yards, showing off the leg strength that afforded him multiple chances even when he struggled with accuracy early in his career. The Cowboys, however, were content to move on, and Maher eventually signed with the Broncos before they released him in late August. He joined the Rams' practice squad shortly thereafter and appears likely to kick for them Week 1.

Maher will work out with the Broncos on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Maher was impressive for much of the 2022 season with the Cowboys, though that was quickly forgotten after he went 1-for-5 on extra-point attempts in a wild-card matchup against the Buccaneers. Denver is in need of some help at the position after releasing long-time kicker Brandon McManus on Tuesday. Even if it's not with the Broncos, there's a strong chance Maher finds a home prior to the start of training camp.
