The Panthers released Hollister on Tuesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.

ANALYSIS
Hollister turns 31 in November and missed all of last season after reaching an injury settlement with the Raiders. He has 62 games of NFL experience with a career 83-707-7 receiving line, but Hollister didn't do enough to win a 53-man roster spot in Carolina this summer, finishing the preseason with four catches for 27 yards.

Hollister signed a one-year contract with the Raiders this offseason after appearing in just seven games as a Jaguar in 2021, but he'll likely have to prove himself as a capable blocker in order to make Las Vegas' 53-man roster behind Darren Waller and Foster Moreau at tight end.

Entering his fifth season in the NFL, Hollister has proven himself to be a solid backup tight end. He spent the last two years in Seattle where he caught 66 passes and six touchdowns in 27 games during that span. He'll effectively replace Tyler Kroft as the Bills' No. 2 tight end behind Dawson Knox. While Knox is bigger, faster and younger, Hollister arguably has better hands and a better feel for route running.

Hollister took over the top tight-end job after Will Dissly ruptured his Achilles last season, and while he wasn't anything special, the 26-year-old looked the part by reeling in 41 of 59 targets for 349 yards and three touchdowns. It's going to be a jam-packed TE room this year, however, as the Seahawks signed Greg Olsen, and Dissly should be ready for Week 1. Therefore, Hollister shouldn't be on fantasy radars barring a slew of injuries.

Hollister spent his first two seasons in the league with the Patriots playing a depth role behind Rob Gronkowski. He was rarely used in the offensive scheme, and the University of Wyoming product wasn't overly productive in college, either. Hollister has been garnering targets in the preseason, but it's still a crowded group of tight ends and second-year pro Will Dissly shows plenty of promise. Hollister should remain off fantasy radars, as a result, unless there are a slew of injuries in Seattle.

Hollister, who has displayed good hands this offseason, is making a case to emerge as a pass-catching option to pair at tight end with starter Rob Gronkowski. With that in mind, given that Julian Edelman is set to miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, Hollister is a candidate to earn targets as a "move" tight end out of the gate when the team runs two-tight end packages. As long as Gronkowski is healthy, Hollister is only a deep-league consideration, even when Edelman is sidelined, but his is a name to file away in the event Gronkowski -- who has been no stranger to the injury report over his career -- is ever sidelined.

The undrafted Hollister beat out James O'Shaughnessy for a roster spot after a strong preseason. He's clearly behind both Rob Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen on the Patriots' depth chart, but Hollister's veteran counterparts have had injury woes in the past, so the Wyoming product could enter the fantasy equation down the road with a break or two in his favor.

The Seahawks have a deep crew of tight ends, as offseason-addition Greg Olsen has joined a healthy Will Dissly to push Hollister down to the No. 3 spot. The team has depth behind him, too, as Luke Willson rotates in and rookie fourth-round pick Colby Parkinson was lifted from the reserve/NFI list Saturday. Hollister could draw a decent return, as he produced a 41-349-3 line over 11 games last year as the No. 1 Seattle tight end following Dissly's season-ending injury. He carries a $3.3 million cap hit, however, and if the Seahawks want to bring in players at the deadline, they may need to shed Hollister's salary. If Hollister stays in Seattle through the trade deadline, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in March.
