The Eagles worked out Jarwin (hip) on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
After tearing his ACL in Week 1 of the 2020-21 NFL campaign, Jarwin has since dealt with a nagging hip issue that's caused him to see game action just eight times across the last two years. However, his workout for the Eagles on Tuesday suggests that the 28-year-old tight end is in a comfortable spot health-wise, and he'll now await further opportunities to rejuvenate his professional career.

With a four-year extension in hand and a starting job for the taking, Jarwin had everything working in his favor for a career year in 2020. Instead, he suffered an ACL tear in the season opener, while fellow TE Dalton Schultz finished with 14 starts and 89 targets. The Cowboys still have Schultz on their roster, but he averaged just 9.8 YPC and 6.9 YPT, despite showing some unexpected power with eight broken tackles. Jarwin, prior to the injury, was far more polished as a receiver — capable of getting separation on short routes or finding an opening down the seam. That makes him the upside fantasy play in what should be a lively offense, though Schultz's presence combined with the ACL rehab leaves Jarwin with potential complications.
With some cash in his pocket and Jason Witten banished to Sin City, all roads lead to Jarwin in 2020. Undrafted three years ago, Jarwin essentially took a redshirt in 2017 and was quiet through most of 2018, failing to take advantage of Witten's brief retirement prior to a three-TD explosion Week 17. Any thought of it carrying over to 2019 took a tumble when Witten announced his return, but Jarwin did well with the work he saw, catching 75.6 percent of his targets while averaging 11.8 YPC. Jarwin signed a four-year, $22 million deal this offseason, and the TE depth behind him is limited to Dalton Schultz, Blake Bell and Cole Hikutini - a trio with 53 combined NFL catches. Granted, competition for Dak Prescott's attention will be fierce, with CeeDee Lamb replacing Randall Cobb in an offense that already has Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. The Cowboys were 11th in TE target share (21.9 percent) last season, but between Lamb's presence and a new coaching staff, Jarwin will really need to shine to keep that number near 20 percent.
Jarwin was set up for a potential breakout season in 2019 following a promising showing in 2018, but the unretirement of Jason Witten puts a heavy cap on Jarwin's snap and target upside. If Witten should fall out of the way for whatever reason, though, Jarwin might thrive again, as he did at times in the second half of 2018. Jarwin's main headline was a 119-yard, three-touchdown game against the Giants in Week 17, his second seven-catch performance in a span of four contests. After turning 36 targets into 27 catches for 307 yards and three touchdowns last year, Jarwin holds some long-term promise despite the complicated 2019 outlook with Witten back in the picture.
Jarwin didn't get onto the field as a rookie last year, but it was an encouraging sign that the undrafted free agent was promoted from the practice squad at all, in a move rumored to have been prompted by the Eagles' interest in him. He fits the mold of a Cowboys backup tight end, flashing the potential to be a difference maker as a blocker without being a complete non-factor as a receiver, but with Jason Witten headed to the broadcast booth, the team may need him to develop into something more than that. Jarwin will get a chance to inherit a large share of Witten's snaps, but barring a very impressive preseason showing, his fantasy upside seems minimal.

Not likely candidate for Bucs
TEFree Agent
June 22, 2022
Jarwin doesn't profile as a likely signing for the Buccaneers despite the recent retirement of Rob Gronkowski, Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times opines.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old Jarwin is undoubtedly intriguing due to his upside, but a Week 1 ACL tear in 2020 and the 2021 hip injury that cut short his season at eight games give him a bit of a damaged goods reputation. Knight notes Jarwin is still in the process of recovering from a hip surgery that has been described as rare for NFL players, which led to his release from the Cowboys with a failed physical designation back in March.
