This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.
Sunday Update Complete.
Bye Weeks: Las Vegas, LA Chargers, New Orleans, Seattle
No Thursday games this week, two Monday games. The Falcons shut down their practice facility Thursday in the wake of a positive COVID-19 test, but were back open on Friday. The Patriots had another positive test, and a second player is having his test reviewed. The Colts had four false-positives.
Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.
Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:
- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.
These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out the rankings first before asking your start/sit question. This truly reflects

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm PT. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning. I will post at the top of the article in bold font when ranking updates are in progress and when they're complete.
I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.
Quarterbacks
1. | Patrick Mahomes KC at BUF |
2. | *Lamar Jackson BAL at PHI Note: (Illness/Knee) Jackson is expected to practice in full this week, though he looked a little off last week against the Bengals. |
3. | Josh Allen BUF vs. KC |
4. | Kyler Murray ARZ at DAL |
5. | Deshaun Watson HOU at TEN |
6. | Aaron Rodgers GB at TB |
7. | Ryan Tannehill TEN vs. HOU |
8. | Jared Goff LA at SF |
9. | Matthew Stafford DET at JAX |
10. | *Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs. NYJ Note: The transfer to Tua will have to wait. |
11. | *Andy Dalton DAL vs. ARI Note: Dalton was 9-of-11 for 111 yards in relief of Dak Prescott last week and now takes over for the rest of the year, beginning with a home game against the Cardinals. |
12. | Gardner Minshew JAC vs. DET |
13. | Tom Brady TB vs. GB |
14. | Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. CLE |
15. | Kirk Cousins MIN vs. ATL |
16. | *Cam Newton NE vs. DEN Note: Newton continues to test positive for COVID-19 but has remained asymptomatic, giving him a chance to return this week. The Pats are scheduled to make up their game against the Broncos this week. Came off the COVID-reserve list Wednesday, had a full practice Thursday and is expected to start. |
17. | *Matt Ryan ATL at MIN Note: Did not play well in the loss to Carolina, and now doesn't have owner Arthur Blank's endorsement for the future after both his coach and GM were fired. The Falcons shut down their practice facility Thursday after DT Marlon Davidson's positive test, but they're expect to resume live practices on Friday. |
18. | Teddy Bridgewater CAR vs. CHI |
19. | Daniel Jones NYG vs. WAS |
20. | *Philip Rivers IND vs. CIN Note: Rough outing against the Browns, but at least he gets a home start against the Bengals this week. Coach Frank Reich responded to a question about Rivers' starting status that there was no consideration of replacing him. |
21. | *Baker Mayfield CLE at PIT Note: Mayfield suffered a rib injury towards the end of the Browns win over the Colts and though x-rays were negative immediately afterward, his status will be monitored closely this week. Mayfield's practice reps have been limited on both Wednesday and Thursday. He did get the proverbial 'trending in the right direction' status from offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. ***Officially listed as questionable, but is expected to play. Both OBJ and Jarvis Landry are also listed as questionable.*** |
22. | *Kyle Allen WAS at NYG Note: Allen was sidelined by a hit to his non-throwing arm in the loss to the Rams, but he's expected to return this week. Participated in a full practice on Wednesday. |
23. | Carson Wentz PHI vs. BAL |
24. | *Joe Burrow CIN at IND Note: Burrow's protection against the Ravens' pass rush was nearly non-existent, but he also made rookie mistakes when he did have time to throw. |
25. | *Drew Lock DEN at NE Note: Lock practiced on both Wednesday and Thursday and is in line to start, though Broncos head coach Vic Fangio expressly stated that they're holding off on making that declaration final. ***Will start this week, but won't have Melvin Gordon or Noah Fant.*** |
26. | *Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs. LAR Note: Evan though Jimmy G. got benched at halftime in the loss to the Dolphins, he's expected to participate in practice this week and start again against the Rams on Sunday. The Niners acknowledged that he was dealing with 'usual' discomfort arising from his high-ankle sprain in the game and that he was benched for his protection last week. He had a full practice Wednesday and is in line to start against the Rams, but will he be compromised again? |
27. | Nick Foles CHI at CAR |
28. | *Joe Flacco NYJ at MIA Note: Getting another start with Darnold ruled out. |
29. | *C.J. Beathard SF vs. LAR Note: Subbed in for an ineffective and apparently still less than 100 percent Jimmy Garoppolo against the Dolphins, but is likely to revert back to the backup role this week against the Rams. |
30. | *Alex Smith WAS at NYG Note: Subbed in for the injured Kyle Allen, got sacked six times and generally didn't get much going. Allen is expected to return this week. |
31. | Brett Rypien DEN at NE |
32. | *Sam Darnold NYJ at MIA Note: Darnold's status for Week 6 is uncertain and his shoulder feels pain every now and then, but is overall feeling a lot better. Officially ruled out this week. |
33. | *Dak Prescott DAL vs. ARI Note: Dak is out for the season with a compound right-ankle fracture and dislocation, but could resume offseason workouts in late April to early May. |
34. | Justin Herbert LAC at |
Running Backs
1. | Ezekiel Elliott DAL vs. ARI |
2. | Derrick Henry TEN vs. HOU |
3. | *Alexander Mattison MIN vs. ATL Note: Likely to start in Week 6 after Dalvin Cook's MRI revealed an adductor strain that will keep him out this week. Cook officially out. |
4. | Aaron Jones GB at TB |
5. | *Mike Davis CAR vs. CHI Note: Davis keeps rolling with CMC out, but McCaffrey is eligible to return this week. McCaffrey will not return this week. |
6. | *Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at BUF Note: Had a receiving touchdown called back on a pick penalty on Travis Kelce, and was limited on third downs. However, despite sitting out medium and long third downs, he still had eight targets. Lev Bell reportedly has agreed to a deal with the Chiefs, which will obviously hurt CEH in the long run. |
7. | James Conner PIT vs. CLE |
8. | Jonathan Taylor IND vs. CIN |
9. | Miles Sanders PHI vs. BAL |
10. | *Kareem Hunt CLE at PIT Note: Hunt was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a thigh injury. |
11. | Joe Mixon CIN at IND |
12. | David Montgomery CHI at CAR |
13. | Raheem Mostert SF vs. LAR |
14. | Ronald Jones TB vs. GB |
15. | Kenyan Drake ARZ at DAL |
16. | Todd Gurley ATL at MIN |
17. | David Johnson HOU at TEN |
18. | *Myles Gaskin MIA vs. NYJ Note: Gaskin had 21 touches, including 16 on the ground with Jordan Howard out as a healthy scratch. |
19. | James Robinson JAC vs. DET |
20. | *Phillip Lindsay DEN at NE Note: Right now it looks as if Melvin Gordon (DUI arrest) will play, but if he doesn't, Lindsay's value spikes up considerably. Gordon missed practice Friday with an illness. ***Bumped up with Melvin Gordon out.*** |
21. | *Adrian Peterson DET at JAX Note: Sat out practice Thursday with a non-COVID-related illness. |
22. | *Antonio Gibson WAS at NYG Note: (Toe) Limited practice Wednesday, full practice Thursday. |
23. | *Devin Singletary BUF vs. KC Note: Zack Moss appears to be on track to return this week. |
24. | *Chase Edmonds ARZ at DAL Note: Edmonds' snap share keeps increasing, and he keeps making plays, though he hasn't yet dislodged Kenyan Drake as the primary running back. |
25. | Mark Ingram BAL at PHI |
26. | Damien Harris NE vs. DEN |
27. | Darrell Henderson LA at SF |
28. | Devonta Freeman NYG vs. WAS |
29. | James White NE vs. DEN |
30. | Mike Boone MIN vs. ATL |
31. | J.D. McKissic WAS at NYG |
32. | Brian Hill ATL at MIN |
33. | *Cam Akers LA at SF Note: Akers had nine carries for 61 yards against Washington and now is slated to get more work next week. |
34. | D'Andre Swift DET at JAX |
35. | *Jerick McKinnon SF vs. LAR Note: Only three touches after Raheem Mostert returned to action, albeit in a blowout loss. I'm giving McKinnon a bump up with the Jeff Wilson injury news. |
36. | Rex Burkhead NE vs. DEN |
37. | *Frank Gore NYJ at MIA Note: I look forward to seeing a heavy dose of Gore on both 1st-and-10, and 2nd-and-8. |
38. | *La'Mical Perine NYJ at MIA Note: Didn't play a single offensive snap last week, because coach Adam Gase said the Jets wanted to avoid 'putting too much on him and stunting his growth.' |
39. | Chris Thompson JAC vs. DET |
40. | *Zack Moss BUF vs. KC Note: (Toe) Remained out for Tuesday night's game against the Titans - hard to count on much for Week 6 at this point. Full practice Thursday and Friday. ***Practiced again on Saturday.*** |
41. | Nyheim Hines IND vs. CIN |
42. | Wayne Gallman NYG vs. WAS |
43. | *J.K. Dobbins BAL at PHI Note: Not getting enough work to start, too good to cut. |
44. | Kerryon Johnson DET at JAX |
45. | Duke Johnson HOU at TEN |
46. | *D'Ernest Johnson CLE at PIT Note: Almost all of Johnson's work came late in the fourth quarter after Kareem Hunt suffered a cramp. |
47. | *Royce Freeman DEN at NE Note: Could get more work than expected this week if Melvin Gordon is held out. ***Gordon is out with strep throat.*** |
48. | *Malcolm Brown LA at SF Note: Taking the third chair now that Cam Akers is healthy, at least last week. |
49. | Jamaal Williams GB at TB |
50. | Tony Pollard DAL vs. ARI |
51. | *Jeremy McNichols TEN vs. HOU Note: (Ribs) Removed from the injury report on Friday. |
52. | Benny Snell PIT vs. CLE |
53. | *Leonard Fournette TB vs. GB Note: (Ankle) Fournette was present at Tuesday's practice, appearing to participate without restrictions, but the Bucs don't have to list a practice/injury report until Wednesday. Officially listed as questionable, but most likely a game-time decision. ***Expected to be active but will be limited in Sunday's game against the Packers.*** |
54. | *Giovani Bernard CIN at IND Note: (Groin) Bernard was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. |
55. | *LeSean McCoy TB vs. GB Note: (Ankle) Removed from the injury list on Friday. |
56. | *Darrel Williams KC at BUF Note: Williams was targeted five times in the passing game and was in on every mid-to-long third down. C.E.H. gets hurt by the Lev Bell signing, but Williams loses all of his value. |
57. | *Ke'Shawn Vaughn TB vs. GB Note: (Chest) Vaughn was able to avoid the injury list despite the big hit he took in last week's game. With LeSean McCoy returning, Vaughn might be marginalized in the offense. |
58. | Boston Scott PHI vs. BAL |
59. | T.J. Yeldon BUF vs. KC |
60. | Matt Breida MIA vs. NYJ |
61. | Peyton Barber WAS at NYG |

65. | *Jordan Wilkins IND vs. CIN Note: (Calf) Limited in practice Wednesday. Did not practice Thursday or Friday. |
66. | *Le'Veon Bell KC at BUF Note: The Jets reportedly are trying to trade Bell. UPDATE: The Jets have released Bell! Expected to sign with the Chiefs - I have no idea how quickly he'll be up to speed with the Chiefs' offense, though. |
67. | *Jordan Howard MIA vs. NYJ Note: Out as a healthy scratch against the Niners. |
68. | *Melvin Gordon DEN at NE Note: Arrested on a D.U.I. and speeding charge, sent home from practice on Wednesday but returned to practice on Thursday. Discipline from the NFL is likely to occur at some point, but it might not be this week. Gordon missed practice Friday with an illness, however. ***Ruled out with strep throat.*** |
69. | *Dalvin Cook MIN vs. ATL Note: Cook is unlikely to play this week after an adductor strain was revealed from Monday's MRI. Officially ruled out. |
70. | *Christian McCaffrey CAR vs. CHI Note: (Ankle) McCaffrey is eligible to return from the IR this week, but the Panthers haven't yet revealed their intentions, stating that he's first undergoing tests this week. Coach Matt Rhule stated that McCaffrey will not be activated this week. He might not return until Week 8. |
71. | *Darrynton Evans TEN vs. HOU Note: (Hamstring) Placed on IR, making way for Jeremy McNichols to be Derrick Henry's change-of-pace back. |
72. | Justin Jackson LAC at |
73. | Joshua Kelley LAC at |
Wide Receivers
1. | DeAndre Hopkins ARZ at DAL |
2. | Tyreek Hill KC at BUF |
3. | *Amari Cooper DAL vs. ARI Note: I missed on this one last week - the Cowboys went away from Cooper last week with him getting shadowed by James Bradberry. |
4. | Adam Thielen MIN vs. ATL |
5. | *Davante Adams GB at TB Note: (Hamstring) Came really close to returning before the bye and practiced on Monday this week - I'd be surprised if he doesn't play this week. Officially cleared to play this week. |

7. | Stefon Diggs BUF vs. KC |
8. | Cooper Kupp LA at SF |
9. | Calvin Ridley ATL at MIN |
10. | Allen Robinson CHI at CAR |
11. | *Mike Evans TB vs. GB Note: Evans is not getting his typical deep targets, suggesting that his various injuries are holding him back. Perhaps the 10 days between games will help. (Ankle) Limited practice all week, yet cleared from the injury list on Friday. |
12. | CeeDee Lamb DAL vs. ARI |
13. | *A.J. Brown TEN vs. HOU Note: (Knee) Active in Week 5 after a two-week absence. Full practice Friday after getting the day off Thursday. He's been cleared from the injury list. |
