Ford (undisclosed) tried out with the Buccaneers on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has seemingly recovered from the undisclosed injury that landed him on Chicago's injured reserve prior to him being released in September. If the 28-year-old ends up catching on with the team, he could help provide receiver depth now that both Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (ankle) are set to miss extended time.

The Dolphins focused on adding wide receiver depth this offseason, with big-name additions such as Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle. Ford thus finds himself in need of a strong summer if he even wants to make the roster. The 2017 seventh-round pick has strung together back-to-back seasons with at least 200 receiving yards, but he's far away from fantasy relevance.
After only seeing action in one game during his first two years in the league, Ford got the opportunity to play the No. 3 receiver role down the stretch in 2019 after a number of injuries to the position. He managed to compile 21 catches for 235 yards during the final four games of the year, including two grabs of 20-plus yards, while serving as a starter alongside DeVante Parker and Albert Wilson. The 2017 seventh-round pick appeared headed for a depth role in 2020, but the shot up the depth chart after Wilson and Allen Hurns opted out of the upcoming season. Ford now figures to be right in the mix for a starting job, perhaps competing with Jakeem Grant for the third spot on the depth chart.
On the one hand, Miami's receiving corps is fluid behind Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker and Albert Wilson, leaving some snaps available for whomever secure the No. 4 role. Indeed, Miami did not bring in a single wideout during the 2019 NFL Draft. On the other hand, Ford's lack of progress heading into year three -- in his lone career appearance Ford logged just 13 offensive snaps and failed to bring in his only target -- likely makes Jakeem Grant, Brice Butler and undrafted rookie Preston Williams front-runners on the depth chart. Ford may need to carve out a role on special teams in order to make the 53-man roster.
Despite an initial expectation that he'd be off the board by the end of Day 2, Ford's name wasn't called until the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, spurred on by a slow 40-yard dash (4.61 seconds) and inconsistent and undersized hands. The Dolphins' receiving corps is top-heavy, boasting Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills. Such a reality will place Ford in direct competition with 2016 third-rounder Leonte Carroo, Jakeem Grant and Rashawn Scott during training camp and the preseason.

Set for tryout
WRFree Agent
May 14, 2021
The Bills will host Ford for a tryout Friday.
ANALYSIS
Ford spent the past four seasons with the Dolphins bouncing between the team's practice squad and active roster. The 2017 seventh-round pick had back-to-back seasons with at least 240 receiving yards, but that could easily be credited to the team's lack of depth at wide receiver. The fact Miami did not offer Ford a RFA tender this offseason should speak volumes about the situation, and given the Bills' glut of available pass catchers, the 25-year-old is likely facing an uphill battle to earn a roster spot.
