Weekly Rankings: Week 7 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update complete

Bye Week: Green Bay, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Seattle

Chargers vs. Titans is an early game in London

Here are my rankings (if you want a second opinion, please see our formula-based projections - these are not tied into my rankings at all) for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Most importantly, the default rankings are now for PPR leagues.

**** PLEASE READ: Times change, and with them, so do I, even if I go kicking and screaming into the good night. The vast majority of the fantasy football universe plays with some form of PPR -whether it's a full point or 1/2 point. ESPN's default is full-point PPR, Yahoo's is .5 PPR. The DFS games for the vast majority are either half or full point PPR. I'm sympathetic to those of you who would prefer standard rankings, so please, feel free to ask your questions in the comments regarding how a player might change in a standard scoring league. ****

***PLEASE READ, PART II - The masses (ok, the not-so-silent minority) have spoken, and you really want more representation for standard leagues too, so the Flex Rankings are now Standard scoring.***

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings. ***These are not draft

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it. If there is no such note, that means it's my first pass at the rankings for this current week.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. This first week in particular, but in other weeks as well, I will change ranks according to injuries and sometimes even a change of heart. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?". And then refer to the rankings again before asking a generic starting decision question. If you really desire a response to a starting question that doesn't have added complexity, please use our Ask An Expert service - it comes with your subscription. Otherwise, my response will correspond with the rankings. If I rank one player before another, that's how I plan on making my starting decisions.

Quarterback

1.Patrick Mahomes KC vs. Cin
2.Matt Ryan ATL vs. NYG
Note: In the NFC South we trust. Ryan remains a machine, though this matchup against the Giants might prove more difficult than the Bucs did.
3.Jared Goff LA at SF
Note: The Broncos' pass rush was a difference-maker on Sunday - particularly effective in shutting down the Rams on play-action passes.
4.*Carson Wentz PHI vs. Car
Note: (Back) Limited practice Wednesday, full practice Thursday.
5.*Jameis Winston TB vs. Cle
Note: Full practice Wednesday despite being designated with a hip injury.
6.Andy Dalton CIN at KC
Note: Coming off of a tough day against the Steelers - he had very little time and dealt with a lot of drops, and in one case, cowardly coaching.
7.Matthew Stafford DET at Mia
8.*Kirk Cousins MIN at NYJ
Note: ***High winds could be an issue in this game.***
9.Andrew Luck IND vs. Buf
10.Cam Newton CAR at Phi
11.Drew Brees NO at Bal
Note: Tough call with Saints players this week, facing the Ravens' stifling defense in Baltimore.

Note: ***Downgraded because of Gronk's absence.***
13.Eli Manning NYG at Atl
14.Philip Rivers LAC vs. Ten
15.Deshaun Watson HOU at Jax
Note: Suffered seven sacks and was hit four times by the Bills. He put the ball on the ground three times, losing it once. Full practice Wednesday despite his myriad injuries.
16.*Baker Mayfield CLE at TB
Note: Dealing with a sore ankle, but isn't expected to miss any time, which is especially good given the matchup against the Bucs this week. Not listed on the initial injury report.
17.Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. NE
18.Joe Flacco BAL vs. NO
19.*Case Keenum DEN at Ari
Note: The Broncos have no plans to try out Chad Kelly instead of Keenum yet, but it's noteworthy that the question is being asked. Keenum has at least one interception in every game.
20.Marcus Mariota TEN at LAC
Note: More sacks than passes completed against the Ravens.
21.Blake Bortles JAC vs. Hou
Note: Not the most Bortles-type game ever, because we didn't get the garbage time production this time around. But the struggles again were real.
22.Dak Prescott DAL at Was
Note: Surprisingly effective against the Jaguars - but as colleague Chris Liss suggested on-air on Monday, the Cowboys were a bad matchup for them. He's also
23.C.J. Beathard SF vs. LAR
24.Sam Darnold NYJ vs. Min
Note: Coming off of two consecutive efficient games, with a third home game in a row, though the opponent is a step up in class. ***Moved down two slots because of high winds in Jersey.***

Note: Good game against the Bears, but Tannehill will take back over when healthy. Tannehill has already been ruled out this week.
26.Alex Smith WAS vs. Dal

Note: Also a candidate to start with Allen out, though Peterman got the nod last week. Named the starter ahead of Nathan Peterman this week.
28.Josh Rosen ARZ vs. Den
29.*Josh Allen BUF at Ind
Note: Week-to-week with an elbow injury, and definitely won't start in Week 7. There are some reports that he suffered some UCL damage, but will not undergo Tommy John surgery.
30.*Ryan Tannehill MIA vs. Det
Note: (Shoulder) Day-to-day after his late scratch in Week 6, but coach Adam Gase affirmed that Tannehill will remain the starter when healthy. Tannehill has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder and has been ruled out again this week, though the Dolphins have said that he won't need surgery.

3.Kareem Hunt KC vs. Cin
4.Ezekiel Elliott DAL at Was
5.Joe Mixon CIN at KC

8.David Johnson ARZ vs. Den
9.*James White NE at Chi
Note: White is starting to draw more defensive attention - on the Brady scramble TD, he drew two defenders.
10.*Sony Michel NE at Chi

19.Kenyan Drake MIA vs. Det
Note: Coughed up a fumble on the 1-yard line in overtime. He did get some work after the fumble, however.

Note: Bumped a couple of spots with the news of Roddick's injury.
39.Bilal Powell NYJ vs. Min
40.Derrick Henry TEN at LAC
41.Raheem Mostert SF vs. LAR
Note: Surprisingly split carries with Breida, not Morris, and ran well - 12 times for 87 yards. The decision to use Mostert over Morris 'may not be permanent.'

43.Wayne Gallman NYG at Atl
44.Alfred Blue HOU at Jax

62.*Dalvin Cook MIN at NYJ

63.*Theo Riddick DET at Mia
Note: (Knee) Sat out practices both Wednesday and Thursday - disturbing considering that he's coming off a bye week. ***Ruled out this week.***
64.*Carlos Hyde JAC vs. Hou
Note: ***With the trade to the Jaguars, he'll have a limited number of plays this week, but they could be goal line carries. INACTIVE after all.***
65.*Chris Thompson WAS vs. Dal
Note: (Ribs, Knee) Day-to-day after sitting out last week. Limited practice Thursday. ***Listed as questionable but not expected to play.***
