O'Shaughnessy had a limited role in 2020 as Jacksonville's secondary tight end but still set career highs with 28 receptions and 262 receiving yards. Chris Manhertz signed with the team as a free agent and should enter camp as the starter, though he has significant limitations in the passing game (12 receptions in 70 career games). Rookie fifth-round pick Luke Farrell also projects to be more of a blocker than receiver. As a result, O'Shaughnessy enters camp with a favorable outlook and could be the Jaguars' top pass-catching tight end, though the team hasn't seen significant production from the position over the past few years.
O'Shaughnessy suffered a torn ACL Week 5 against the Panthers and was lost for the season, interrupting his most productive outing with three catches for 57 yards. He started the first five games and totaled 14 receptions for 153 yards and two scores, which put him on pace for a career year. Tyler Eifert will enter camp as the starter after signing as a free agent, while Tyler Davis battles O'Shaughnessy -- assuming he's healthy -- for the No. 2 spot.
O'Shaughnessy ended up starting nine games for the Jags in 2018 and more than doubled his offensive snap total from the previous season, but he still only managed 24 receptions for 214 yards and zero TDs in 14 overall contests. The 27-year-old seems likely to make the 53-man roster but is poised to serve mostly as a blocker behind Geoff Swaim and rookie Josh Oliver. O'Shaughnessy could see expanded opportunities in training camp since Oliver suffered a hamstring injury early on.
O'Shaughnessy doesn't offer much as a receiver with eight career catches over his first two NFL seasons, but he should be a serviceable blocking tight end in run-heavy formations. From a fantasy perspective, his upside is modest.
An impressive 2015 rookie training camp led many to believe O'Shaughnessy could see significant reps, but it translated to just six grabs for 87 yards in the regular season. He and Demetrius Harris will likely duke it out for the No. 2 tight end job, but that slot generally holds little fantasy value. A successful camp could lead to more two tight-end sets, but it would probably require an injury to Travis Kelce for the Illinois State product to move into the spotlight.
O’Shaughnessy was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his senior season at Illinois State, the young tight end hauled in 29 passes for 544 and nine touchdowns in 12 games. While Travis Kelce remains locked in as the Chiefs’ top tight end heading into 2015, Anthony Fasano’s offseason departure leaves a bit of a void for the the second spot on the depth chart. Demetrius Harris enters training camp as the favorite to win the job, but a strong showing in camp and the preseason could propel O’Shaughnessy into some meaningful regular season snaps.
