Cleared from November charge

Walton's attorney, Michael Gottlieb, said Wednesday that the state of Florida has dropped the charge of aggravated battery of a pregnant woman that the running back faced following a Nov. 19 arrest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Before Miami released Walton the same day as the arrest, he had been serving as the Dolphins' top running back until the NFL suspended him for four games Nov. 4 due to a prior violation of the league's conduct and substance abuse policies. Even though Walton's legal status has been resolved for the November incident, it bears mentioning that he was arrested again in February for violating a restraining order. With that in mind, Rapoport notes that the NFL is still reviewing Walton for potential discipline, making it uncertain if or when he may be allowed to resume his career.

Initially selected by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Walton's uninspiring rookie season was compounded by his being arrested three times in as many months, prompting Cincinnati to release him. The former Miami Hurricane is getting a second chance with the Dolphins after impressing during the team's rookie minicamp, but he's likely on a tight leash and could be released if he slips up again. That said, Walton's versatility will lend him every opportunity to compete with seventh-round rookie pick Myles Gaskin and veteran Kenneth Farrow for what could be a single roster spot behind top backs Kenyan Drake and Kalen Ballage.
A fourth-round pick out of Miami, Walton has plenty of traits that could allow him to have a long and fruitful NFL career. His powerful running style and low center of gravity allow him to bang through tacklers and gain yards after contact, potentially making him a short-yardage and goal-line option for the Bengals. He also showed good receiving and blocking skills in college, allowing him to stay on the field in all situations. An ankle injury last year sapped his explosiveness, however, and his lack of vision in finding and exploiting holes could be a liability at the next level. He won't be thrust into a big role right away in Cincinnati, as Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard have the top two spots on the depth chart locked down. If injuries or ineffectiveness open touches, Walton could prove to be an effective jack-of-all-trades.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Increased role forthcoming
RBMiami Dolphins
October 27, 2019
Walton is in line to see increased touches in the Miami backfield after the team agreed in principle to trade Kenyan Drake, the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Drake apparently didn't even travel with the team to Pittsburgh for its Week 8 Monday Night matchup, so it looks like it will be Walton and Kalen Ballage leading the charge against the Steelers. Walton has already been gradually taking over the role of lead back, as he led the backfield with a 52.1 percent snap share in Week 7, compared to 41.1 percent for Drake. This is a deal that has been in the works since Drake refused a contract extension earlier in the year, and it will finally come to fruition in advance of Tuesday's deadline. While a shared backfield on possibly the league's worst team isn't typically a sign of a great fantasy asset, Walton's value is nonetheless set to improve for the rest of the season.
