Collins (abdomen) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks signed running back Josh Johnson off the practice squad to join the roster as a replacement for Collins, who has been troubled by the abdominal injury off and on throughout the season. Prior to being sidelined for four out of Seattle's last five games -- three times due to the injury and once due to a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list -- Collins had picked up six starts in the wake of Chris Carson's season-ending neck injury. Despite the big opportunity afforded to him, Collins averaged a pedestrian 3.8 yards per carry and found the end zone only twice over his 11 appearances on the season. His absences in recent weeks opened up more work for Rashaad Penny, who has seized control of the lead role out of the backfield with three games of 130-plus rushing yards in his last four outings.

Collins, who the Seahawks took in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft, rejoined the team last season after a stint in Baltimore. In the process, the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder, who turned 27 in August, ended up logging 18 carries for 77 yards and two TDs and one catch for four yards in three games for the team. Heading into the 2021 season, Collins is in the mix to see complementary work behind top back Chris Carson, with 2018 first-rounder Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas also in the mix. In that context, Collins' fantasy value is limited, so long as Carson and Penny remain ahead of him on the depth chart, and more importantly, off the injury report.
Collins finished the 2017 season with 973 rushing yards and six touchdowns for the Ravens and appeared poised for a big 2018, but he now finds himself without a team. The 24-year-old struggled out of the gate last season as he didn't break 4.0 YPC in a game until Week 5 and ended up missing the final six games of the season with a sprained foot. The disappointing season was capped off with an arrest and criminal charges in March that led to his release. Collins still is relatively young, so it wouldn't be shocking to see a team take a flier on him, though he may be levied a suspension from the league office.
Cast off the Seahawks' roster at the end of the preseason last year, Collins wound up at the bottom of a Ravens depth chart that seemed nearly as crowded, but by Week 3 he seized the starting role and never looked back. While he lacks the straight-line speed expected of top-shelf feature backs, Collins proved to be one of the most elusive runners in the league, showing outstanding footwork and vision to find a crease and hit it with authority. The 23-year-old's ability to make defenders miss even in tight quarters allowed him to overcome the mediocrity of Baltimore's offensive line. Collins has the size and frame to handle plenty of snaps, but his skills as a receiver are still a work in progress, with limited cause for optimism. While Javorius Allen and Kenneth Dixon are around to pick up any passing-game slack, there's no reason to think Collins will fade away as suddenly as he arrived. The Ravens' O-line should improve with G Marshal Yanda returning from an ankle injury, and the team likely will run some zone-read plays if rookie QB Lamar Jackson gets on the field.
Collins got some valuable experience in his rookie season due to injuries to Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise. In 11 games, Collins recorded 31 carries for 125 yards, a touchdown and two fumbles (one lost) to go along with 11 receptions for 84 yards. However, with both Rawls and Prosise returning to health and the Seahawks adding Eddie Lacy to the backfield mix in free agency, Collins needed a strong training camp to earn a roster spot in 2017 and was unable to deliver. After going unclaimed off waivers, Collins signed with the Ravens' practice squad in September and will have to bide his time until injuries to the Baltimore backfield -- or any team for that matter -- create an opening for him.
A fifth-round draft pick out of Arkansas, Collins isn't physically imposing at 5-foot-11, 217 pounds and clocked just 4.59 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. However, he'll merely serve as depth to a Seattle backfield that is populated by Thomas Rawls (ankle), Christine Michael, and C.J. Prosise.

October 23, 2021
Collins is dealing with a groin injury but is likely to see action Monday against the Saints, according to John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site.
ANALYSIS
Collins didn't practice Thursday or Friday, but head coach Pete Carroll said Collins "looked good" Saturday and the coach appears to believe the running back will be available Monday. Considering Chris Carson is sidelined due to a neck injury, Collins should continue to be the team's lead back. He has racked up 148 yards and one touchdown on 35 carries over his last two appearances.
