Rest-of-Season Projections
Shifts to IR
Collins (abdomen) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks signed running back Josh Johnson off the practice squad to join the roster as a replacement for Collins, who has been troubled by the abdominal injury off and on throughout the season. Prior to being sidelined for four out of Seattle's last five games -- three times due to the injury and once due to a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list -- Collins had picked up six starts in the wake of Chris Carson's season-ending neck injury. Despite the big opportunity afforded to him, Collins averaged a pedestrian 3.8 yards per carry and found the end zone only twice over his 11 appearances on the season. His absences in recent weeks opened up more work for Rashaad Penny, who has seized control of the lead role out of the backfield with three games of 130-plus rushing yards in his last four outings.

Collins, who the Seahawks took in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft, rejoined the team last season after a stint in Baltimore. In the process, the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder, who turned 27 in August, ended up logging 18 carries for 77 yards and two TDs and one catch for four yards in three games for the team. Heading into the 2021 season, Collins is in the mix to see complementary work behind top back Chris Carson, with 2018 first-rounder Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas also in the mix. In that context, Collins' fantasy value is limited, so long as Carson and Penny remain ahead of him on the depth chart, and more importantly, off the injury report.
