The Vikings hosted Catanzaro for a workout Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings have serious concerns at kicker, as Dan Bailey is in the midst of a cold spell. They also cut kicker Tristan Vizcaino from the practice squad Tuesday. Depending on how he performed in the tryout, Catanzaro has a chance to usurp Bailey as the team's starting kicker. Catanzaro played four games last season, connecting on all five field-goal attempts, including two from beyond 50 yards.

Opening his career alongside explosive Cardinals offenses, Catanzaro connected on 57 of 64 FGAs (89.1 percent) and 80 of 85 PATs (94.1 percent) between 2014 and 2015. As a member of the Cards, Jets, Bucs and Panthers in the ensuing three seasons, he fell off to 79.5 and 91.9 percent, respectively. His journeyman standing brought him back to the Jets last offseason, but he ultimately decided to retire after the first preseason game.
Catanzaro missed eight kicks in nine games for Tampa Bay last season but rebounded with Carolina and then signed as a cheap replacement for Jason Myers in New York, where he previously played in 2017. While the team context has potential with Le'Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder joining Sam Darnold, leg strength is still an issue for Catanzaro, who has made just 10 FGs from 50-plus yards in 77 career games.
Catanzaro is set to kick for a third team in as many years, after failing to maintain his consistency from his first two NFL seasons (2014-15). He at least was perfect on extra points in New York last year, with each of his five misses coming in the 40-49 range. The Tampa Bay offense could take a big step forward, but it isn't entirely clear whether Catanzaro or undrafted rookie Trevor Moore would be the one to benefit.
Catanzaro connected on a career-worst 75.0 percent of his field-goal attempts last season, and his 91.5 percent rate on PATs ranked 24th in the league. He missed at least one kick from each fantasy distance marker, and he will have to beat out undrafted rookie Ross Martin for the starting job. With the Jets' offense not expected to be great (or even good) this season, Catanzaro is unlikely to get enough attempts to make up for his poor accuracy.
Catanzaro tied for the 13th-most field goal attempts last season, but his 53 PATs pushed him to the third-highest scoring total in the league. Things could have been even better had he not missed five extra points, with his 91.4 percent accuracy ranking 24th league-wide. Nevertheless, he was perfect from inside 40 yards, so it's not like the PAT distance should have been overly difficult. He has close to a perfect recipe for a fantasy kicker, as he is on a team with an elite offense and plays half his games in ideal conditions at University of Phoenix Stadium. With the Cardinals' offense expected to be strong again, there's little reason to believe Catanzaro won't be near the top of the kicker scoring again.
Catanzaro started last season about as well as a rookie kicker could, tying the NFL record with 17 consecutive made field goals to begin a career. He didn't miss until Week 10, which coincided with Carson Palmer's season-ending torn ACL. Because the Cardinals' offense was in disarray after Palmer's injury, Catanzaro's production dropped significantly, as he connected on more than two field goals just twice thereafter. Catanzaro, who finished 17th in kicker scoring, wasn't given too many opportunities from deep (2-of-3 from 50-plus yards), but he was 10-of-11 from 40-49. Palmer's recovery will be the biggest key to the offense bouncing back, and if the veteran signal-caller is fully healthy by Week 1, Catanzaro will have a great opportunity to build on his rookie season.
An undrafted free agent, Catanzaro beat out veteran Jay Feely for the role of Arizona's kicker.

Catanzaro had a tryout with the Packers on Friday, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear why the Packers felt the need to bring in Catanzaro as Mason Crosby is not dealing with any documented injury. Crosby has also performed very well through three weeks, hitting all 13 of his extra-point attempts as well as all seven of his field-goal attempts. Catanzaro last kicked in a regular-season contest in 2018.
