Weekly Pitcher Rankings: The Race to 200 Innings

This article is part of our Weekly Pitcher Rankings series.

Starting Pitcher workload was a big talking point in spring. The majority of projections were quite conservative. As you know, I generate my own projections while Jeff Erickson handles the official site version. While we both have many of the names wrong, we were pretty close to the number of pitchers in each tier. Based on my own rest of season projections, here are the number of starters I have achieving each tier, with 2019's final tally in parenthesis.

  • 200+: 4 (15)
  • 190-199: 3 (7)
  • 180-189: 18 (11)

This will no doubt be discussed in the offseason, especially with the fantasy implications for 2022. That's a story for another day. We all still have some work to do.

Something to note is there are just two games on Monday, Sept. 27. This significantly reduces the two-start inventory. And we all know the unpredictability of the last week of the season. That leaves this week and next to really focus on maximizing starts. The problem is, there simply aren't a bunch of guys to pick up if strikeouts and possible wins are areas of need.

As always, these are pulled from the Projected Starters Grid, so please direct rotation question to that page. Please feel free to hit me up with rankings question below and be sure to check out the refresh on Sunday night.
