2025 Fantasy Outlook
The right-hander plans to return in 2025 for his 18th MLB season after turning 41 years old in November, and he hit the open market after a four-year run in Atlanta. He was a reliable rotation piece during that span and closed out 2024 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 167:65 K:BB across 165.1 innings. That's only about a half-run higher than the ERA from the prime of his career, and he's made at least 30 starts in each of the past six full-length seasons. Morton lost a little bit of his velocity with an average fastball of 94 mph, and his 23.8 percent strikeout rate was his worst mark since 2015. Father Time is certainly creeping up on Morton, but he's managed to remain an effective back-end starter to this point, and he could provide fantasy managers with some strikeouts and innings if they're comfortable with the age risks. Planning to pitch in 2025
Morton plans to continue his baseball career in 2025, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 41-year-old has not yet confirmed it himself, but recent reports had suggested Morton was likely to keep pitching next season rather than retire. Morton's strikeout rate fell to 23.8 percent in 2024, which was the lowest it's been since 2015. He still misses bats at an above-average rate, however, and has made 30-plus starts in each of the last six non-COVID seasons. Morton shouldn't have trouble netting a sizable one-year contract, likely from a contender.

Morton continued to fend off Father Time by starting 30 games. He's started at least that many every season since 2018, excluding the truncated 2020 campaign. Morton's control showed signs of age as he posted an 11.6 percent walk rate, the highest since his rookie season. His 25.6 percent strikeout rate dropped a couple of ticks, but it was still within range of the previous few seasons. Morton's elevated walk rate resulted in his highest WHIP since 2012, but Lady Luck was on his side with a low 9.4 percent home run per fly ball rate and a 77.6 percent left on base mark, keeping his ERA in check, albeit at least half a run below the associated estimators. Morton's didn't lose any velocity, but it's still fair to be worried about his spike in control. Atlanta isn't concerned as they picked up Morton's $20 million team option for his 40-year-old season. Hoping for one more productive season is defensible, but Morton should be considered a luxury item, and not counted on as a staff staple.

Not expected back in Atlanta
Atlanta and Morton have had no recent contract discussions and the pitcher is not expected to re-sign, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien writes that Atlanta's interest in Morton "seems to have waned" and the club appears focused on other needs right now. Morton, 41, plans to continue pitching in 2025 and is open to fielding offers from other clubs. The veteran right-hander prefers to pitch for a team with a spring training complex close to his home in Bradenton, FL, which narrows the field of potential suitors.
