Yankees 9 - Indians 1
- Freddy Garcia held the Indians to just 1 run over 6.2 innings. He struck out 6 and walked 2 in the win, his fifth. This was much, much better than his last outing where he gave up 4 earned runs in just 1.2 innings against the Red Sox.
- Josh Tomlin continued to regress with 6 earned runs allowed in 5 innings. He allowed 12 hits and 1 walk with 2 strikeouts. That's his third straight game where he's given up 6 earned runs.
- Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada each went 2-3 at the plate. Swisher's batting line (.225/.350/.350) is just as bad as Posada's (.226/.323/.378), yet it garners less attention.

Mariners 7 - Tigers 3
- Felix Hernandez improved to 7-5, after he pitched 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. He struck out 6 and walked 5 batters, which tied a season high. It's refreshing to see the Mariners offense give King Felix good run-support.
- Rick Porcello turned in a quality start as he pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. All of the damage was done in the fifth inning, when Miguel Olivo led-off with a solo homer. He struck out 5 batters, which is the most for him in over a month.
- Justin Smoak went 2-5 with a RBI single and a 2-run homer. That's his second homer in his last three games. The first baseman is batting .252/.348/.486 on the season.

Red Sox 14 - Blue Jays 1
- Jon Lester pitched 8 innings of 1-run ball with just 2 hits allowed and 1 walk. He struck out 8 Blue Jays batters as he dominated them for the large majority of the game. A Jose Bautista homer in the 4th inning was the lone blemish for Lester.
- Kyle Drabek's struggles continued as he allowed 8 earned runs in just 4 innings. He allowed 7 hits, 3 of which were homers, as he walked 4 batters and struck out 5. At this point you almost have to wonder what more he can do before he's removed from the rotation. His 5.70 ERA and lack of command are doing no one any good.
- Adrian Gonzalez just does not stop. He went 2-4 with a homer, 2 RBI, and 2 runs. He's hitting .341/.392/.584 on the season.
- J.D. Drew took the collar as he went 0-5 with 4 strikeouts. It's been a while since I handed out a Golden Sombrero.

Rays 9 - Orioles 6
- Brian Matusz gave up 4 earned runs and got only 4 outs to start the game. He gave up a lead-off homer to Johnny Damon, then had a tough time finding the strike-zone as he allowed 4 more hits and 4 walks. One has to wonder if he's fully healthy and over his back issues.
- Wade Davis allowed 5 runs (4 earned) over 6 innings on 8 hits and 1 walk. He gave up back-to-back homers to Adam Jones and Vladimir Guerrero in the first inning, but was able to settle in after that. Home runs have been a consistent problem for Davis this season as he's given up 12 in 78.2 inning for a 1.37 HR/9.
- Justin Ruggiano went 3-5 with a solo homer as the Rays number three hitter. Joe Maddon works his magic yet again with this lineup.
- J.J. Hardy wrapped out another two hits to improve his batting line to .287/.363/.473.

White Sox 5 - A's 4
- Phillip Humber pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs for his 6th win. He had 7 strikeouts which were a season high. He has now pitched at least 7 inning in 8 of his last 9 starts.
- Guillermo Moscoso allowed 4 earned runs over his 6.1 innings with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. It was just his fourth start of the season, since coming up from Triple-A.
- Adam Dunn slugged his 7th homer, a 3-run blast. He's still batting just .180/.322/.335. Both he and Alex Rios (0-4) have been huge disappointments this season.

Twins 6 - Rangers 1
- Francisco Liriano flirted with another no-hitter as he pitched 8 innings with no walks and 9 strikeouts. Adrian Beltre led-off the 8th with a single to break it up and eventually scored on a Yorvit Torrealba single. In Liriano's last four starts he's allowed a total of 4 earned runs with a 29/8 K/BB ratio.
- Matt Harrison allowed 2 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings in a loss. He now has a 3.31 ERA, but hasn't show much command as he has 42 strikeouts to 32 walks in 70.2 innings.
- Michael Cuddyer went 1-2 with a 3-run homer and 2 walks. He's hitting .273/.339/.432 on the season and is offensively one of the few Twins having any success.

Royals 9 - Angels 0
- Vin Mazzaro pitched 7 shutout innings with 5 walks and no strikeouts. The lack of strikeouts tells you all you need to know. Owners are still licking their wounds from his epic 14 run meltdown earlier this season.
- Tyler Chatwood allowed 5 earned runs in just 3.2 innings for a loss. He struck out 5, walked 3, and allowed 5 hits. He has barely struck out (39) more batters than he has walked (38) this season.
- Alex Gordon went 3-5 with 2 RBI and 2 strikeouts as the lead-off hitter for the Royals. His .285/.354/.464 batting line is the best of his career.

Diamondbacks 5 - Marlins 1
- Dan Hudson allowed just 1 run over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts for a win, his 7th. He left with the bases loaded in the 7th inning and no outs, but Daniel Hernandez stepped up allowed just 1 of those runs to score. That's now back-to-back starts in which Hudson has allowed just 1 run.
- Brad Hand wasn't nearly as sharp as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) over 5 innings with 5 walks to just 2 strikeouts. It was just his second start of the season, since making the jump from Double-A.
- Stephen Drew went 3-4 with a 2-RBI double. The shortstop is quietly batting .295/.373/.457 as the D-Backs clean-up hitter.

Phillies 4 - Cubs 3
- Roy Oswalt snuck out a win, after he pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. He struck out 5 batters, which is the most he's struckout since late April. Of course, against the Cubs, this is the type of performance Oswalt should have. At least he's been consistent with his control as he walked just 2 batters.
- Doug Davis pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 5 walks to go with his 6 strikeouts. He's really going to need to cut down on the walks if he's going to be successful. His walk rate is over 5.5 BB/9 right now.
- Chase Utley went 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs, out of the three hole in the lineup. He's batting .261/.370/.420 on the season.

Mets 7 - Pirates 0
- Chris Capuano 3-hit the Pirates over 7 shutout innings for his fifth win. That's now three out of his last four starts in which he's allowed 1 or fewer runs. He's maintained the control that he showed last season and looks to be a 4.00 ERA pitcher.
- Kevin Correia pitched 7.2 innings, but allowed 4 earned runs as he took the loss. That's now 8 earned runs in his last 12.2 innings. Despite this performance, he's been much better at home (2.42 ERA) than on the road (5.54 ERA) this season.
- Jose Reyes went 3-5 with a homer, his third, RBI, and 2 runs. The shortstop's .371 BABIP is helping fuel a career high .346/.391/.529 batting line.

Braves 4 - Astros 1
- Tommy Hanson dominated the Astros for 7 innings as he allowed just 1 earned runs and struckout 14 batters. The Astros had no chance against Hanson as he allowed only 3 hits and issued 2 walks. The strikeouts are a season high and tie a Minute Maid Park high.
- Brett Myers allowed 4 earned runs over 7 innings with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. He's not doing himself or his trade value any help with performances like this. He's now given up 4 or more earned runs in 8 of his last 10 starts.
- Carlos Lee went 2-3 with a RBI and walk. He's now batting .274/.324/.419 on the season, which might surprise some people.
- Dan Uggla went 2-3 with a homer, 2 RBI, 2 runs, and a walk. He's still hitting below the Mendoza Line at .183, but it has to get better because it can't get any worse.

Brewers 4 - Cardinals 3
- Shaun Marcum reached his 7th win with 7 innings and 3 earned runs allowed. With a 2.68 ERA, he's been everything the team had hoped for, when they traded for him.
- Jake Westbrook pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 1 walk with no strikeouts. His command has been awful this season as he has 38 strikeouts to 34 walks in 75 innings. At this point if you're starting him, you're just hoping he wins the game because the strikeouts and WHIP (1.64) aren't there.
- Jon Jay went 2-4 as he continues to do well (.309/.364/.434), despite a lack of playing time. His .361 BABIP seems unsustainable, but he may not see enough at-bats for it to normalize. Last season he got almost 300 at-bats and carried a .350 BABIP.

Dodgers 10 - Rockies 8
- Ubaldo Jimenez fell to 1-7 as he allowed 7 runs (2 earned) on 11 hits and 1 walk over 5.1 innings. He was thought to perhaps be turning the corner after his last two starts, but this while not very damaging to his ERA, seems like a step back.
- Rubby De La Rosa allowed 3 earned runs in 5.0 inning with 6 strikeouts to improve to 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. In 15 innings this season he has 15 strikeouts to 9 walks.
- Rod Barajas went 3-5 with a homer, 2 RBI, and 2 runs. He's batting .233/.272/.407 with 8 home runs.
- Charlie Blackmon went 0-3 and is batting .217/.217/.217 in just 23 at-bats.

Nationals 2 - Padres 0
- Jordan Zimmerman struck out 10 batters with just 1 walk in 7 shutout innings. He took a no-decision, but this was his best start of the season. With a 3.10 ERA and 16 walks in just 81.1 innings, he seems to be all the way back from his TJ surgery.
- Tim Stauffer pitched 7 shutout innings as well, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. That's now back-to-back games (15 inning) where he has yet to allow a run. He still has a 2-4 record in his 14 starts, despite his 3.28 ERA.
- Laynce Nix went 3-4 with a RBI and walk. He's batting .296/.331/.546 as the three hole hitter for the Nationals. Interestingly enough, Jayson Werth hit leadoff in this game for the second game in a row. He went 0-4 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Giants 4 - Reds 2
- Edinson Volquez sported a new haircut and allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings. He started the game with a lead-off walk, as is the usual. He finished with a no-decision, 5 strikeouts, and 3 walks. Since coming back from his stint in the minors he has 10 strikeouts and 5 walks.
- Jonathan Sanchez also pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. He walked 5 batters and struck out 5 with 5 hits allowed. Sanchez continues to have a great strikeout rate (9.30 K/9) and high walk rate (5.60 BB/9). For now his home run rate is 0.67 HR/9, so the walks have yet to really catch up to him.
- Aubrey Huff went 3-4 with 2 RBI and a double. He's still batting just .234/.288/.393, but should continue to find playing time considering Brandon Belt is still injured and there are no other options.
