Yorvit Torrealba: Granted Release By Cubs
Torrealba was granted a release from the Cubs organization Friday, the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales reports.
ANALYSIS
He asked to be released, as he clearly wasn't a big part of the Cubs' plans in Triple-A. He will now look to catch on with either a contending team or a team that will give him a chance on the big league roster. In his last season in the big leagues (2013 with the Rockies) he posted a .240 average with zero home runs in 196 plate appearances, so he's not worth much fantasy consideration.

As has been the case for most of his career, Torrealba served in a backup capacity for the Rockies last season, providing quality defense behind the plate to make up for his tepid batting numbers. With the team opting to go with the more youthful Jordan Pacheco as their No. 2 catcher moving forward, Torrealba is in search for employment elsewhere. His experience should allow him to latch on with a major league club at some point in 2014, though it might take an injury for that to happen.
