Rest-of-Season Projections
Sitting out amid slump
Kemp is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Kemp's grasp on the Rockies' primary designated-hitter role may be loosening, as he's recorded only one hit in 19 at-bats over his last five starts to drop his season-long batting line to .228/.296/.412. Kevin Pillar will spell Kemp as the Rockies' DH in the series finale.

Kemp benefited from the universal designated hitter in 2020, as he served as the Rockies' primary DH for most of the 60-game season. Although he spent the entire season on a major-league roster, he didn't generate enough production to make him very relevant in fantasy. He recorded a career-best 11.4 BB%, but he also struck out at a 31.1% clip and had a 77.6 Z-Contact% that ranked among the worst in the majors. He hit six home runs, which tied for fourth on the Rockies, but he had a .180 ISO and a 32.9% hard-hit rate that was his worst mark since 2011. With most teams strapped for cash, Kemp could struggle to find consistent major-league work in 2021. He still has some decent power entering his age-36 season and could carry some value in the deepest of OBP leagues if he can find a spot on an active roster next year, but Kemp may have to settle for a minor-league deal if he decides to continue playing.

Kemp intends on playing next season, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Just a little over 10 months ago, Kemp was named the National League's Comeback Player of the Year after slashing .290/.338/.481 with 21 homers and 85 RBI with the Dodgers in 2018. He only ended up playing in 20 big-league games this season; Kemp suffered a broken rib in April and was subsequently released by Cincinnati, and the Mets cut bait after only eight Triple-A games. At nearly 36 years old, Kemp is a big liability on defense, but an AL team may give him one last look in spring training as a non-roster invitee.
