Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Phillies
Harrison (back) was released by the Phillies on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
This amounts to one really expensive 40-man roster spot, as the Phillies have to eat $15.2 million by releasing Harrison this offseason, whereas there was a $2 million buyout option available next offseason. Harrison's back injury is clearly still believed to be a pretty significant issue, and it is unclear if he will be ready to pitch this spring.

Harrison has made just three starts in the past two seasons and did not pitch at all last year. He came back from spinal fusion surgery in 2015 and went back on the disabled list with a type of lower-back inflammation called hyperthyroidism. He was released by the Phillies this offseason and it is fair to wonder if he will ever pitch again in the majors. He certainly does not belong on any fantasy rosters.

Harrison (back) was not present when pitchers and catchers reported to Phillies camp Wednesday, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports. General manager Matt Klentak said, “We’re not expecting him to be here any time soon, if at all this year. If things go well, we’ll be happy to get him back, but the reality is we’re kind of in a wait-and-see mode and we have to let it play out.”
