If Corey Hart (3-4, 7 RBI, BB, SB) does this tweaking in the cage a little more often, trading away Prince Fielder (1-4, BB, K) may not mean the end of the season for Milwaukee. When he hit the field tonight, Hart had 76 AB's and a goose egg next to his name in the homerun column. He'll go to sleep tonight with three and yet, Yovani Gallardo seems to be the bigger performance. Gallardo (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 9 K) becoming a CY Young candidate is the most important factor in their quest for the N.L. Central. Seven different Brewers crossed the plate tonight and they showed a dangerous balance. If you need to know how Gorzelanny faired, just resign from your league tonight cause you're not gonna make it. Capital LossDrew Storen (0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, BB, K) was one of a few closers who struggled, much less in a slop up. Smoking Brew Richie Weeks (1-3, 3 R, BB,K made the nice place-setter for Hart's night. Yuniesky Betancourt and Jonathan Lucroy seem to be hitting off one another lately. It's got to be a bittersweet feeling for Chase Utley (0-5, K), who returned to the Phillies lineup tonight. While his performance was far from silver slugger, his presence seems to have woken up his teammates' bats. In addition to the three homeruns above, five Phillies have two or more hits tonight, and everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit. Well all except for... yeap, you got it, Chase Utley. It was almost like Arroyo (2.2 IP, 10 H, 9 ER) felt bad for the Phils. In comparison, one might say Cole Hamels (6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) was heartless during a mediocre fantasy start, but effective night for the team. In addition to watching Dustin Pedroia (1-3, RBI) leave the field with a leg injury, the Sox watched as the Indians' Cabrera (3-4, R, 2 RBI) knocked a two-out RBI double off Bard in the bottom of the eighth inning tonight. Despite good news, such as Carl Crawford (2-4, 2 R) continuing to find himself, yanking his second homerun of the season. Even forgetting a terrific start by Clay Buchholz (7.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) might be forgiven. No, to take things personal, Theo Epstein only needs to look across the mound for his biggest defeat, pulling the trigger too early on Justin Masterson. Though Masterson (7.2, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) was not accredited with the W, the Indians now have seven (of 10 games-pitched) wins thanks to Epstein's gift. Ways Of ReliefRich Hill pitched an out, and has given up only three hits in six relief appearances since putting on a Boston jersey. No, STILL not the closer, but Bard (0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) got tagged for his second blown save in his last three outings. It was a close call, but Perez (1 IP, 2 H) got the job done.

Tigers 6 Rays 3

WP: Charlie Furbush (1-0) LP: Jeremy Hellickson (5-3)

Jim Leyland started off the10-game homestand with a lineup that defined balance, as seven different Tigers reached base on a hit. Franchise folks, Miguel Cabrera (1-3, RBI) and Victor Martinez (1-3, 2 RBI) kicked in their expected ante as well. Another A.L. Central youngster debuted with a memorable game as Andy Dirks (1-3, BB) hit his first career homerun. But it was another youngster, Charlie Furbush who stepped up the most for Detroit. After replacing injured Phil Coke (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER), Furbush also making his major-league debut, pitched (3.2 IP, BB, 3 K) two-hit ball. Seven out of the Rays starting nine left at least one man on base. Jose Valverde (1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB) was not exactly sharp in his slop up appearance. Tampa's 4-7 hitters went 1-13 and left nine men stranded. The Rays prize? Deal with Justin Verlander who is a career 5-1 (3.29 ERA) against the Rays. The Other JhonnyThat Jhonny Peralta (1-3, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K) trade looks stronger everyday. RaysB.J. Upton was all over the place tonight. Stole a base, scored a run and also watched his average fall below .250. Upton walked twice and struck out thrice.

Blue Jays 7 Yankees 3

The A.L. East is surely shaping up, and no where near what Red Sox and Yankees fans were expecting. The tide is finally changing, and the Jays are a team beginning to reap the benefits. Sure Jose Bautista (1-3, 2 R) did his thing again, drawing two walks and hitting his major-league leading 19th homer of the season. But it's the maturation of players like J.P. Arencibia (2-4, 4 RBI, 2 K) or resurgence of Aaron Hill (2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) that has things looking up. Also looking up was the performance by Villanueva (5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K), who was pitching in Jesse Litsch's (shoulder) place. Bright StripesCurtis Granderson went 0-2 (2 K, SB), walking twice while scoring all three Yankees runs. Brett Gardner went 2-4, jacking two bases himself. Hector Noesi (3 IP, 2 H, R) has now pitched a total of seven innings in two A.L. Matchups, yielding one run and six hits.

Rangers 4 White Sox 0

WP: Alexi Ogando (5-0) LP: John Danks (0-7)

Go home and decompress from a long weekend of Phillies starting pitching. O yeah, activate a few outfielders, that's what we forgot to do. Set aside the Hamilton (2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Cruz (1-4, 2 RBI) homerun's in their first game back, the real momentum builder is the pitching. Just on the revenge factor alone; Once again beating the former Rangers prospect Danks (8 IP, 9 H, 4, 2 BB, 3 K), who is now 1-4 in seven career starts against his former team. Yet, even sweeter news is awaiting for those who barked at the idea of hiding Ogando (9 IP, 5, 3 BB, 6 K) in the bullpen and risking the arm of 2010's American League R.O.Y. Ogando has gone from neo-set up man to pitching the Rangers second consecutive shutout on 115 pitches. Off WhiteJuan Pierre was 1-4, and left four men stranded. Gordon Beckham went 2-4 and is now on a four-game hitting streak. After going 4-5 yesterday, Alexei Ramirez went 0-4 and left two men on base.Rightened RangersIan Kinsler hasn't felt the feeling of a multi-hit game since May 15th. Welcome home Ian, as usual, it's been a long road trip. Kinsler broke out of a 2-26 slump, going 2-4 from the lead off spot. Michael Young added three more hits to his A.L. Leading (64) hit total, going 3-4.

Angels 4 Athletics 1

And so the circle has come fully round for Brian Fuentes (0.1 IP ER, BB) and his career as a closer. Surely, went he went to the A's he had to have known this would happen. Last time, the benefactor of an A's win as a result of his blown save, this time, the Angels had his number during a tie game. And yes, what a difference a day -maybe a few- makes for Torii Hunter, who was just in the highlights for an error in Centerfield of all places. Regardless, Hunter (2-3, R, RBI, BB, K) came back with an arm to throw out Andy Laroche at the plate. Torii also started the 8th inning rally grabbed them a win over their division rival Athletics. Though Jered Weaver (7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) pitched much better tonight, but he's unable to snap his four-decision losing streak. Green Sickness In his first action of the season, Josh Outman (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) pitched very well.

Astros 4 Dodgers 3

WP: Jeff Fulchino (1-2) LP: Kenley Jansen (1-1)

Well that experiment just hit my dog house. Last season, Jansen (0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER) hit my radar and solidified my bullpen at the end of the year. After Jonathan Broxton's issues, I thought Jansen would eventually be a great fill-in. After tonight's implosion against the Astros, I'm off the bandwagon. That was just the result of the cause put in place when Angel Sanchez had the loudest 11-pitch at bat for the Astros this year. Hunter Pence (2-5, RBI) said ?Outstanding at-bat?. But it was Bill Hall (4-5, 2 R, SB), who made things happen with his stolen base that seemed to ignite the Houston offense in the bottom of the ninth. All of this shadowed the performances by Bud Norris (7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) and Clayton Kershaw (6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) who both pitched well. Dodgers James Loney extended his hitting streak to nine games Swinging StrosMichael Bourn who scored the the game's winning run. went 1-4 with 2 RBI and you guessed it, a stolen base. OF/INF Jason Bourgeois (oblique strain) said he felt good after taking batting practice and hopes to go again in the next couple of days.

Cardinals 3 Padres 1

It's late after my FT job on a Monday, so I'll let you do the research, but I'd love to see the list of pitchers who have pitched eight or more innings in five or more starts this year. Kyle Lohse (8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, BB, 5 K) became a part of that club tonight and against a baseball club Lohse (6.10 ERA in two starts) has not liked facing historically. Dustin Moseley (3 BB, 3 K) also pitched solidly, tossing seven innings, scattering five hits as well. Efficient BirdsDaniel Descalso is 4-9 with two runs and two RBI in his last two games. Jon Jay stole a base and went 3-5 tonight. Lance Berkman drew two walks and went 1-2. Quiet DadsCameron Maybin was back in the lineup and is back at it again, playing for the first time since May 22nd, Maybin went 2-3 in his return. Maybin who has consecutive four-hit nights this month and 19 in total in as many games, is owned by 38|PERCENT| of CBS and 30|PERCENT| of Yahoo!

No longer the Dome series, this is for sure. But a game Harmon Killebrew may have enjoyed. One last time today, an activation off the D.L. paid immediate dividends. You think Jim Thome (2-3, 2 BB, 3 R, 4 RBI) was bottled up as well? But a bigger question, what can Denard Span NOT do? Span (3-5, R, 2 RBI, BB, SB) is clearly the spark plug to this team and he elevated things tonight with more than just a home run. Neither of the starters, Carl Pavano (7 IP, 9 H, 4 ER) or Jason Vargas (4.2 IP, 7 H, 5) pitched impressively and nearly all of Minnesota's bullpen pitchers gave up at least run to make Pavano's lead vanish. A pinch of Carlos Peguero (2-5, 2 RBI) and splash of Jack Cust (2-5, BB, 2 RBI, 3 LOB), who still managed to strike out twice, while having a good day.
