Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Red Sox
Peralta was released by the Red Sox on Thursday, Ryan Hannable of WEEI reports.
ANALYSIS
Peralta recently signed a minor-league contract with the team June 23, but hit just 8-for-40 with two home runs and five RBI for Triple-A Pawtucket in 10 games. Boston has seen solid production out of Tzu-Wei Lin and Deven Marrero at the hot corner, and didn't foresee any opening for Peralta at the big-league level. Prior to his time with the Red Sox, Peralta was batting .204/.259/.204 during 21 games with the Cardinals. The 35-year-old could wind up joining a contending team in the next couple weeks, but his future is very much up in the air right now.

Peralta has had a 15-year career to this point, but there is unlikely to be a 16th season in the books. He has not been fantasy relevant for the past two seasons and that is unlikely to change at age 36. He could end up on a minor-league deal with a team before camps open in February, but this is still a player with a .251/.299/.376 line over the past two season which grades out to 20 percent below the league average. We writers will not be sad to see him go since his name either autocorrects or gives us the dreaded red squiggly line each time we write about him. He hit double-digit home runs for 11 consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2015, which is tough to do, but it's over man. It's over.
