Closer Watch

Red Sox – The Blue Jays got to Koji Uehara just enough on Monday to give him a blown save, but he still ended up with a win. Clay Buchholz entered the ninth inning looking to complete a shutout, but loaded the bases with one out before being pulled for the closer, who gave up a run on a fielder's choice, then two more on an Edwin Encarnacion double – all charged to Buchholz. Craig Breslow got the save in the 10th inning after the Sox rallied to go back ahead. Uehara's somehow managed to collect six blown saves in 32 tries despite a 2.25 ERA and 0.90 WHIP, but still has strong job security here.

Cardinals – Trevor Rosenthal gave up a ninth-inning solo homer to Andrew McCutchen on Monday, but fortunately, he had a two-run lead to work with and still collected his 39th save. Despite a pair of scoreless outings before this one, Rosenthal's given up five runs (all earned) in his last six appearances and has a miserable 5:8 K:BB in that span. Meanwhile, Pat Neshek pitched a clean eighth Monday and is now sitting on a ridiculous 0.81 ERA and 0.58 WHIP.

Recommended Pickup
Jarred Cosart, SP, MIA – So, okay. Cosart doesn't strike anyone out. But he plays in a pitchers' park and just took his show on the road, holding the Angels to a lonely run over 7.2 innings Monday. Over his last three starts, Cosart's pitched 20.2 innings while allowing just 16 hits, four walks and two runs. He'll make his next two starts against the Braves, who just scored six runs in three games against the Reds in hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. At the very least, he's an intriguing streaming option, and as a former top-50 prospect, he's got upside from there.

Other Recent Recommendations: Luke Gregerson, Oswaldo Arcia, Jeremy Hellickson, Jon Jay, Tsuyoshi Wada
