Rest-of-Season Projections
Cut loose by Colorado
De La Rosa (oblique) was released by the Rockies on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
De La Rosa agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rockies in April, but he failed to make a minor-league appearance prior to his release due to an oblique injury. The 38-year-old has been playing professional ball since the 2004 season and may consider hanging it up if he fails to draw interest while on the open market.

For most of his time with the Rockies, De La Rosa was the only constant in the Colorado rotation. His performance was never spectacular, but the left-hander was serviceable for many years. Things changed drastically in 2016, as he posted some of the worst numbers in his career. In 24 starts and three relief appearances, De La Rosa turned in a 5.51 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and a horrendous 1.5 HR/9. The veteran also concluded the campaign with an awful 108:63 K:BB ratio, the worst rate since his first year in Colorado. De La Rosa's contract expired at the end of the season, and considering his putrid finish and the fact that he's 35 years old, it'll be tough for him to earn as many starting opportunities moving forward. He'll likely try to latch on somewhere to provide a veteran presence and some length out of the bullpen.
