Closer Watch

Athletics -- Welcome back, Sean Doolittle. The lefty pitched a clean ninth with a strikeout Monday night for his first save of the season, and he may finally be back in the saddle as the A's closer after an injury-shortened campaign.

Tigers -- Bruce Rondon got the last two outs of the ninth inning Monday for his fourth save of the year, but it was anything but pretty, as he gave up a hit and two walks with no strikeouts. That's two saves in the span of a week for Rondon, who appears set to get an extended trial in the ninth-inning role over the remainder of this season.

Recommended Pickup
Joe Panik, 2B, SF – In the midseason desperation for lineup filling, a lot of Panik's owners cut him to the wire after he went down with a back injury. But he's back now, and he showed his health by smashing a pinch-hit double Monday night. Kelby Tomlinson's done a bang-up job at second in his absence, but Panik seems likely to retake the everyday role nonetheless, considering the excellent numbers he's put up this year – his 162-game pace adds up to a .311 average, 11 homers, 58 RBI and 94 runs. Snatch him up if someone dumped him when times were bad.

Other Recent Recommendations:Javier Baez, Joe Kelly, Justin Morneau, Corey Seager, Didi Gregorius
