ANALYSIS
Lindgren reached the big leagues with the Yankees in 2015, but he's been unable to make his way back to baseball's top level since undergoing Tommy John surgeries in August 2016 and March 2018. The 28-year-old lefty struggled mightily over eight appearances for Triple-A Charlotte this season, giving up nine earned runs on five hits and 15 walks over eight innings.

2015
For the second year in a row, Lindgren's season was cut short, and this time it was Tommy John surgery that will likely hold him out for all of 2017 as well. He was limited to just six appearances last season, and while he didn't allow a hit in seven innings with High-A Tampa, he did struggle with control and walked nine. It's an especially disappointing development because the lefty had already made it up to the big leagues as a 22-year-old and entered 2016 with a chance to win a bullpen spot out of spring training. If the former second-round pick isn't healthy until 2018, he'll be 25 years old and have pitched just seven innings at any level over a two-year span, so he likely won't be rushed up the ranks to the majors without first getting plenty of minor league action under his belt.
Lindgren made his major league debut in 2015, but it was short lived, as surgery to remove a bone spur in his throwing arm in June ended up costing him the remainder of the season. He dominated while in the minors, working to a 1.23 ERA with 29 strikeouts in just 22 innings, so the 21-year-old could get the chance to begin the 2016 season in the majors. Unfortunately for the lefty, the back-end of the Yankees' bullpen appears to be set going forward, so Lindgren could be reduced to either being a lefty specialist or working in lower-leverage situations. Assuming he makes a full recovery over the offseason in time for the start of spring training, Lindgren at least figures to get a good chance for his first extended stint in the big leagues, even if he does lack upside in most fantasy formats.
Given his position and team, Lindgren’s upside is limited. He is a relief pitcher who was not once used as a starter after getting drafted 55th overall in the 2014 draft. He features just two pitches -- a low-90s fastball and a plus slider that works as a true finishing pitch to both left and right-handed hitters. His results in 25 innings between four levels in 2014 signal that he is built for high-leverage situations. Lindgren posted a 48:13 K:BB ratio and a 2.16 ERA, giving up just 12 hits in 25 innings. However, with Dellin Betances coming off one of the best seasons by a relief pitcher in history, he figures to get the ninth-inning role in the Bronx with David Robertson departing in free agency. Lindgren should spend most of the 2015 season with the big league club but his strikeouts and ratios will only be useful in deeper leagues.
