Closer Watch

Blue Jays - The call up of Sergio Santos shouldn't be that big of news in large parts of the fantasy baseball world as he won't be used in save situations. Toronto's current closer is Casey Janssen who has been terrific even if one includes the blown save in his last outing. Over the last 30 days Janssen has been used in 13 games, including 11 saves, and has only given up two earn runs, both of which where in that last outing. Santos on the other hand will be used in a setup role, so teams that have holds as a category in their league should at least keep an eye on him if he is still available.

Pirates - Jason Grilli looked shaky Friday when he only recorded one on a fielder's choice out while giving up two runs on two hits and three walks, one of which was intential. Grilli must not have thought that he was going to be needed entering the bottom of the ninth as the Pirates had a four run lead. Justin Wilson started the inning by recording a walk, a strikeout, and then another walk before Grilli was called upon to record the save. Ultimately the team beat the Marlins in the 13th inning, and Grilli also ended up with his first save of the season.

Recommended Pickup

Chris Carter, 1B/OF, HOU - If your fantasy team needs some more power then take a serious gander at Carter who is tied for the most home runs in all of MLB for the past seven days with a total of four. In that same time Carter has a total of five hits giving an average of .238 with an on-base percentage of .250 and an OPS of .989. The man can hit for power, and home runs can be hard to come by for some teams. Carter has been primarily used as a DH for the Astros this year, but last year he played over 40 games at both first and left which means that in most leagues he will have mulitple positions where he will be eligible. Carter is not a fit for all fantasy teams, but is still available in many leagues making him worth at least looking at as a pick off the waiver wire.

Other Recent Recommendations:Josh Rutledge, Brandon Crawford, Charlie Morton, Eugenio Suarez, and Kendry Morales
