San Francisco 5 – Pittsburgh 2

- Ryan Vogelsong extracted some revenge on his old team, striking out eight an allowing only two runs over 5.2 innings. Brian Wilson picked up his seventh save by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

- Ryan Doumit had forgettable day, leaving a team-high five runners on base and allowing two of the slower Giants – Pablo Sandoval and Nate Schierholtz – to each steal their first base of the season. Teammate Neil Walker had a 3-for-4 day at the plate batting cleanup. I'm not sure if this speaks more to Walker's hot start or the lack of a power hitter ffor the Pirates.

Seattle 7 – Detroit 2

- W: Michael Pineda (4-1), L: Brad Penny (1-3)
- HR: Miguel Olivo (2), Luis Rodriguez (1)
- SB: Milton Bradley (3)
- CS: Chone Figgins (3)

- I'm starting to think this Pineda kid is going to be good. Of course over the weekend I traded him away for Yovani Gallardo in one league and Zack Greinke in another. Good moves, looking at just this season? Pineda struck out nine and allowed only two earned runs, raising his ERA to 2.01.

-Miguel Olivo has enjoyed Comerica Park, going 7-for-13 with two home runs over the team's three games there. Don't rush to get him quite yet; he's batting .092 in Safeco this season.

- Jose Valverde got in some work, tossing a scoreless inning and lowering his ERA to 0.84. Not saying it'll happen again but Valverde had one of the more drastic closer splits last season before the ASB (0.92 ERA in 32 innings, one home run) and after the ASB (6.38 ERA in 24 innings, four home runs).

- Will Rhymes went 1-for-2 and is now batting .196. Scott Sizemore down at Triple-A is batting .403 with two home runs and has a nine-game hitting streak intact.

Buccaneers 15 – Vikings 3

- W: Jeremy Hellickson (2-2), L: Nick Blackburn (1-4)
- HR: Ben Zobrist (6), Casey Kotchman (1), Michael Cuddyer (3)
- SB: Ben Zobrist (4), Johnny Damon (4), B.J. Upton (6)

-The hero of the day was Ben Zobrist, who set a franchise record with eight RBI. He now has 16 RBI over his last four games to go along with three homers and two stolen bases. You might say he's playing pretty well right now.

- Rookie Jeremy Hellickson picked up the win, allowing six singles and the homer to Cuddyer. He had a nice matchup in Minnesota against a depleted lineup which didn't hurt his cause.

- Matt Joyce went 3-for-4 and is now batting .313. Surprisingly, Sam Fuld did not get in on the action going 0-for-4 but walking and scoring once.

- The Twins lineup featured players named Rene Tosoni, Steve Holm and Luke Hughes. I'd be lying if I told you I could tell you more than two sentences total about the three.

Toronto 5 – Texas 2

- W: Frank Francisco (1-0), L: Darren Oliver (1-2)
- HR: Adam Lind (4)
- SB: Ian Kinsler (4), Elvis Andrus 3 (7), Nelson Cruz (1)

- Shame on Jose Molina for allowing five stolen bases. Arlington has been a launching pad the last two days so kudos to Brandon Morrow who allowed two runs in six innings while striking out six and walking one (in case you don't know, my man-crush).

- Alexi Ogando was a question mark for the rotation in the early spring, no? He's been awesome and despite the no-decision is a solid play going forward. Remember that it's his first time in the rotation so don't be afraid to sell-high if possible.

- Adam Lind seems to like the Stadium in Arlington, as he's gone 7-for-14 with three home runs and eight RBI. Note he's got a strange split coming into the game with a 1.007 OPS vs. lefties as opposed to a .593 OPS vs. righties.

- Frank Francisco looks ready to take over the closer role after striking out three of the four batters he's faced. Does it seem odd that Jon Rauch has been on so many different teams in the last few years? It makes one curious…

Cleveland 8 – Kansas City 2

- W: Fausto Carmona (2-3), L: Kyle Davies (1-3)
- HR: Shin-Soo Choo (4), Carlos Santana (3), Grady Sizemore (4), Shelley Duncan (1)

- Kyle Davies is proving to be not a major league starter while Fausto Carmona has improved drastically since his first start. He now holds a 5.15 ERA.

- The enigma known as Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-3 with a double. Look, I get that this is probably not sustainable. But do you think he can keep this up at a rate of 80 or 90 percent? I'd love to hear any perspective backed up with analysis; I'm still not sure what to make of him.

Washington 4 – New York 3

- W: Livan Hernandez (3-2), L: Chris Capuano (2-2), S: Drew Storen (4)
- HR: Ian Desmond (3)
- SB: Chin-lung Hu (1)
- CS: Jose Reyes (2)

- In a battle of unimpressive teams, Washington won out. Ike Davis is proving he's ready to take the next sophomore step while Jason Bay went 0-for-4, resembling his old self before the concussion.

- Drew Storen should be the first choice going forward in the Nationals pen as the closer. He threw a scoreless inning lowering his ERA to 0.64. After Burnett blew up last night (Wednesday night), Storen is the closer to own.

Boston 6 – Baltimore 2

- W: Lester (3-1), L: Jim Johnson (1-1)
- HR: Vladimir Guerrero (4)
- SB: Brian Roberts (2)

- Marco Scutaro went 0-for-4 helping his average to .189. As a Yankee fan, this is the right move as Jed Lowrie should be on the bench despite any matchup.

- Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two doubles, bringing him to 10 on the season. Those of us who own him (ahem!) would love to see those turn into home runs. "If you build it, they will come." I certainly hope so.

- Only one Oriole in the starting lineup tonight was hitting at least .289 and guess who that was? Robert Andino. Look, better days are ahead for the Orioles offensively, I'd look to trade for them if you can and reap the benefits as the season goes on.

- With the recent success of Kevin Gregg, look for him to have a more solid grip on the closer's role after Mike Gonzalez allowed two earned over 0.1 innings to bring his ERA to 13.50. Jim Johnson took the loss, Gonzalez looked bad tonight and Koji Uehara allowed a home run last night. Gregg's leash grows a tad longer…

Tampa Bay 6 – Minnesota 1 (part deux – a shout-out to the Warlock)

- W: Jeff Niemann (1-3), L: Anthony Swarzak (0-1),
- HR: Ben Zobrist (7), John Jaso (2)

- Jeff Niemann apparently got things together tonight tossing six hitless innings until getting into the seventh. Considering his 2:1 K;BB ratio tonight, I'd like to see him do something against real competition. Until then, I'd stay clear.

- Joe Nathan pitched a scoreless inning and shockingly stuck out two of the batters he faced. I'd be buying low on him in most leagues, especially if you're chasing saves.

- You can't stop Ben Zobrist, he now has four homers in five games and doesn't care if it's Target Field.

New York Yankees 12 – Chicago White Sox 3

- W: C.C. Sabathia (2-1), L: Edwin Jackson (2-3)
- HR: Nick Swisher (1), Brett Gardner (3)
- SB: Eduardo Nunez (2), Brett Gardner (4)

- Nick Swisher has shown some life after the slide that took out Tsuyoshi Nishioka for a broken leg. Swish has been slumping big-time since that game.

- If I'm in an AL-Only league, I'm rostering Eduardo Nunez, especially if I need some middle infield insurance.

- Lance Pendleton threw two scoreless innings for the Yanks while they teed off on second-tier pitching for an extra six runs after Jackson made his exit.

St. Louis 11 – Houston 7

- W: Kyle McClellan (4-0), L: Fernando Abad (1-2), S: Fernando Salas (1)
- HR: Lance Berkman 2 (8), Chris Johnson (2)
- SB: Colby Rasmus (3), Carlos Lee (1)

- Despite giving up five runs in 5.2 innings, McClellan ran his record to 4-0. I'm thinking Dave Duncan will be getting a Christmas card from him this year.

- Fernando Salas picked up the save and I think it'll come down to the Cardinals and Phillies as to which team ends up with the most players recording a save this year.

- Daniel Descalso had a bad day, striking out three of his five at-bats and committed two errors in the field.

- Lance Berkman is still raking and I have no idea what to think. Revenge on his old team? O/U on 27.5 home runs for him this year?

Arizona 11 – Chicago 2

- W: Barry Enright (1-2) L: Ryan Dempster (1-3)
- HR: Stephen Drew (2), Miguel Montero (4), Koyie Hill (1)

- I'm starting to think something isn't right with Ryan Dempster. Is he hiding an injury? I've sent  offers of my middle rotation guys to his owners in most of my leagues in an attempt to "buy-low" here, hoping he's healthy and that he just broke a mirror or something in the offseason.

- Stephen Drew hit cleanup and why not, considering he's hitting .324? He bashed his second home run and recorded five RBI.

- Carlos Marmol got some work in, tossing a scoreless eighth inning and was in line to pick up the win until he team didn't score 10 runs in the ninth inning.

- Russell Branyan went 2-for-4 to raise his batting average to .289 while Juan Miranda's sits at .237. Let's see if Branyan gets some more playing time going forward.
