Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Red Sox
Lind was released by the Red Sox on Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran reportedly had an opt-out in his contract which could be exercised if he wasn't on the major-league roster by Wednesday. Lind hit a strong .303/.362/.513 in a part-time role for the Nationals last season, though his minor-league numbers are poor this year, as he's struggled to a .245/.300/.424 line. That may or may not be enough for another team to take a shot on the 35-year-old as a potential platoon bat.

Lind spent 2018 toiling in the minors, first with the Yankees, then with the Red Sox. He was with the Bronx Bombers in the spring, but they released him in late March, only to re-sign him on a minor-league deal in mid-April. He reported to High-A Tampa, posting a 1.091 OPS in eight games before heading to Triple-A Syracuse. The Yankees cut ties again in late May after Lind slashed a meager .241/.302/.414. Boston signed him to another minor-league deal, assigning Lind to Triple-A Pawtucket where he posted a .668 OPS before being released Aug. 1 after the Red Sox declined to promote him, invoking an opt-out clause which he exercised. It was a little surprising Lind failed to catch on with a big-league team last season as he was coming off a typically productive 2017 season in which he posted a 121 wRC+. The 35-year-old veteran will likely have to go the minor-league deal route if he wants a chance to return to The Show for a swan song.
