Ace(s) of Spades:

- Felix Hernandez and Dan Haren traded gems, each throwing seven shutout innings and striking out eight (Hernandez was a bit better, giving up three hits and three walks to Haren's seven hits and two walks). Neither, of course, got the decision.
- Jordan Zimmermann allowed one lonely hit over six shutout innings, striking out nine, to try and help Nationals fans forget about Stephen Strasburg. He also traded no-decisions with Anibal Sanchez though, who pitched seven clean frames, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Radar Love:

- Aroldis Chapman struck out one batter in a perfect inning of relief in his big league debut, and his a reported 102 mph with his fastball.

Notables:

- Wandy Rodriguez tossed seven shutout innings too, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out five, to kick off a four-pitcher shutout by the Astros.
- Nick Hundley went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI.
- Jose Bautista hit his 43rd home run of the season. That matches his total from the previous three seasons combined. Bautista's five years older, but last guy I can think of to do something similar was a 24-year-old Sammy Sosa in 1993.
- Joey Votto kept his Triple Crown hopes going with a 2-for-3, three RBI night.
- Boof Bonser tossed 4.1 innings of shutout relief, striking out five, after Vin Mazzaro got chased off the mound by a barrage of Yankee homers.
- Edwin Jackson struck out 11 and walked only one in 8.2 innings (and 129 pitches, if that sort of thing worries you), only getting yanked after he gave up two ninth inning runs to make it a one-run game.

Save Chances:

- Brian Wilson, converted (37). One K in a perfect inning.
- Matt Capps, converted (33). One hit, one K, one shutout inning.
- David Aardsma, converted (26). One walk in a scoreless inning.
- Bobby Jenks, converted (25). It was an el cheapo, as he needed to get just one out, but he still gave up a hit anyway.
- Brandon Lyon, converted (10). One hit and one walk vs. two strikeouts in a shutout inning.
- Juan Gutierrez, converted (5). One K in a perfect inning.
- Koji Uehara, converted (5). One strikeout in 1.2 perfect innings.
 

Other Closer Outings:

- Brad Lidge tossed a perfect ninth with the Phillies up by four.
- Joakim Soria won his first game of the year, pitching a scoreless ninth and giving up one hit while striking out one.
- Carlos Marmol struck out two and gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth with the Cubs down by a mere 12 runs.
- Drew Storen allowed the game's only run on two hits and a walk in the 10th inning.

Non-Closer Outings:

- Jonathan Broxton struck out three and gave up two hits in 1.1 innings.
- Brandon "Stop Calling Me Heathcliff" League won his ninth game of the season, giving up one run on two hits and a walk to ruin a 0-0 shutout in the eighth, only for Kevin Jepsen to pitch even worse (three runs on two hits and two walks against just two outs) in the bottom half of the inning.
- Sean Marshall struck out three in 1.1 perfect innings.

Tough Days:

- Carlos Monasterios got tagged with five run on five hits in just two innings.
- Kevin Correia conceded six runs on six hits and three walks in 4.1 innings, although he did strike out six.
- Cliff Lee coughed up seven runs (only four earned) on 10 hits in just 4.2 innings, striking out five. Lee has now given up four earned runs or more in six of his last seven starts.
- Sean O'Sullivan was pummelled for six runs on nine hits, including three home runs, in five innings.
- Austin Jackson went 0-for-5 and left six men on base in a 4-3 loss.
- Ryan Dempster got spanked for seven runs on seven hits and three walks in three innings, striking out four.
- Jeff Niemann got thumped for seven runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings.
- (I'm running out of ways to describe bad outings here...) Yovani Gallardo was, let's say, flummoxed for eight runs on nine hits and three walks, striking out six, in five innings.
- Vin Mazzaro was, umm, scalded for nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits, including three home runs, in just 3.2 innings.

Injuries:

- Jason Kubel was hit in the left wrist by a pitch. X-rays came back negative, but he's expected to be out for a while.
- Orlando Hudson played through a sore foot, going 1-for-4 and striking out three times. He's expected to sit Wednesday, and possibly beyond.
- Brian Fuentes could miss a few days after his back acted up.
- Jay Bruce was a late scratch with a sore right side.
