Debuts:

- Brad Lincoln pitched six innings for the Bucs, giving up five runs on seven hits (including an Adam Dunn homer) and two walks, striking out three. He got a no-decision.
- Teammate Jose Tabata went 2-for-4 with a walk, stolen base and run scored, but left late in the game with appeared to be a hamstring cramp and his availability for Thursday is in doubt.
- Boof Bonser's first appearance as a Red Sox reliever did not go as planned - he gave up four runs on two hits and two walks without retiring a hitter.

Felipe Paulino Run Support Watch:

- Two runs through his eight innings, good enough for a no-decision. Carlos Lee's grand slam in the 10th inning won the game for the Astros.
- Kenshin Kawakami wants in the on the party, after another no-decision, this time following six shutout innings.

Notables:

- CC Sabathia beat the Orioles for the fourth time this season already, striking out eight in seven innings, allowing two runs.
- Justin Masterson threw a complete game shutout against his old team, striking out six while giving up two hits and two walks.
- Orlando Cabrera went 4-for-5 and scored three runs while batting out of the leadoff slot.
- Ian Snell might have lost his rotation slot for good and perhaps his roster slot with the M's after getting torched for eight runs (seven earned) over just 1.2 innings.
- Randy Wolf served up five homers en route to allowing eight runs in 4.2 innings. He signed a three-year, $27 million deal last December. The Brewers finally sunk the cost of Jeff Suppan's contract this week.
- Carlos Zambrano got the win, but didn't pitch especially well. He only gave up two hits over five innings, yet still allowed three runs, thanks in large part to five walks issued.
- Gordon Beckham had his first extra-base hit since April 29, a double against Rick Porcello. Porcello, meanwhile, got hammered again, giving up eight runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings.
- Joe Saunders threw a prototypical complete game for him, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk against the A's, striking out two.
- Clayton Kershaw struck out 10 in outdueling Adam Wainwright.

Save Chances:

- Matt Capps, converted (20). After a rough week last week, Capps has converted two save chances this week against the Pirates.
- Mariano Rivera, converted (14).
- Chad Qualls, converted (12). This was far less eventful than Monday's save - he walked one still, but also struck out two.
- Jonathan Broxton, converted (16). Broxton gave up two hits, including a ground-rule double with two outs to Yadier Molina.

Other Closer Outings:

- Francisco Cordero gave up a run on two hits while striking two out, entering the game with a four-run lead.
- Neftali Feliz retired the last two hitters while protecting a 10-run lead, striking out one while walking one. It was his first appearance in five days.
- Jon Rauch threw a scoreless inning while pitching a four-run lead, giving up one hit.
- Manny Corpas threw a scoreless inning in a tie game.

Non-Closer Outings

- The Nats' bullpen formula once again worked to a tee, with Drew Storen pitching the seventh (and getting the win), Tyler Clippard the eighth and Matt Capps getting the save in the ninth.
- Andrew Cashner threw two shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.
- Matt Belisle, who gave up Carlos Lee's grand slam, has reverted back to being, well, Matt Belisle this week.

Lineup-o-logy:

- Jose Tabata stepped right into the leadoff spot for the Bucs, with Andrew McCutchen going back to the third spot in the order. Garrett Jones moved from right field to first base.
- Anderson Hernandez started in place of Jason Donald at shortstop, with Luis Valbuena starting at second base.
- With John Jaso getting the day off, B.J. Upton moved back up to the leadoff slot.
- Jose Guillen got his second start in the outfield this season, with David DeJesus getting a start DH. This was done in anticipation of needing to play Guillen in interleague road games.
- Todd Helton was benched in favor of Melvin Mora at first base. Helton is hitting just .239/.355/.307(!) in 176 at-bats this season.
- Kevin Frandsen started at third base and Robb Quinlan at first base against lefty Dallas Braden.

Injuries:

- Scott Olsen (shoulder) suffered a setback in his rehab.
- Brett Gardner (thumb) didn't start but did appear as a pinch-runner.
- Edinson Volquez (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment on Saturday.
- Aramis Ramirez (thumb) hit the DL on Wednesday.
- Magglio Ordonez missed his second consecutive game with a sore left side.
- Ryan Perry (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the DL for the Tigers.
- J.J. Hardy will have his wrist examined to see how it responded to a cortisone shot.
- Nate McLouth collided with Jason Heyward in the outfield on Gerardo Parra's inside-the-park homer and landed on his head, leaving the game in the eighth inning.
- Gabe Gross sat out with a back injury, while Rajai Davis remained out with his hamstring injury.

Transactions:

- Jake Arrieta will make his debut on Thursday night, starting against the Yankees.
- The Jays activated Jesse Litsch from the DL - he'll replace Brian Tallet in the rotation. Rommie Lewis was sent down to make room for Litsch on the roster.
- Adam Moore (elbow) should come off the DL for Thursday's game for the Mariners.
- Matt Carson was called up by the A's with Rajai Davis still out.
