Closer Watch

Tigers - Jose Valverde picked up his second blown save of the season Friday night when he gave up a three-run lead and ultimately the game in the ninth against the Orioles. Before that Papa Grande had only given up one run the whole season while accumulating six saves, so unless he has another couple blow ups in a row he will continue to be Detroit's closer.

Brewers - Francisco Rodriguez picked up his second save of the 2013 season Friday night one week after he got his first. The Brewers had lost every game up to that point, so with the option of using someone else in the ninth the Brewers seem to be happy with K-Rod while Jim Henderson is out.

Rockies - It was a 24 hours for Rafael Betancourt as he blew the save for the Rockies on Friday night in the tenth and then was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a groin injury. Rex Brothers is the prohibitive favorite to take over the closers role as he has only given up one run in 27 appearances this season. Brothers was originally selected in the first round of the 2009 amateur draft, and it would seem like he is the closer of the future for the Rockies as 12-plus years younger than Betancourt.

Tyler Lyons, P, STL - After two impressive starts, both wins, to begin his big league career, Lyons has proven that he is worth a look in most fantasy baseball leagues. Though he was going up against two of the worst offensive teams of recent memory, San Diego and Kansas City, Lyons has proven that he has what it takes to pitch against MLB batters. Lyons has accumulated a stat line any pitcher would be envious of for their first two starts haven given up six hit, two walks, two earned runs, and nine strikeouts over 14 innings while getting a win in both. Lyons will be making his home debut Sunday to what should be a raucous crowd, and should look to impress.
