Suffers first career defeat
Diniz lost to Marcin Tybura via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Diniz was originally scheduled to fight Derrick Lewis in Edmonton two weeks ago. "The Black Beast" withdrew a day before the event, and Diniz was re-booked here against Tybura. He landed a couple massive blows in the opening minute of the fight before it all fell apart. Diniz has zero grappling game to speak of and was essentially finished the second things got to the mat. He defended fairly well the remainder of Round 1, but Tybura opened up from mount in Round 2, crushing Diniz with elbows. While he survived the frame (barely), the doctor's checked him out prior to Round 3 and pulled the plug. This was just the Brazilian's ninth professional fight at age 33. The power is legitimate, but the rest of his game is a work in progress, and Diniz simply may not have enough time to make the necessary improvements in other areas.

Booked against Tybura
Diniz will fight Marcin Tybura at UFC 309 on Nov. 16, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Diniz was scheduled to fight Derrick Lewis (undisclosed) at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, but the former will now face off against Tybura after Lewis was forced to withdraw from the fight. Diniz has yet to take a loss eight bouts into his professional MMA career, and he'll look to secure his third UFC win against an opponent who has dropped two of his last three.

Lewis fight scrapped
Diniz will no longer fight Derrick Lewis (undisclosed) at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Lewis was forced to drop out of the bout due to a medical issue, so the UFC canceled the fight, and Diniz will now need to wait a bit longer for his chance to improve to 3-0 within the promotion.

Showdown with Lewis scheduled
Diniz will take on Derrick Lewis in a heavyweight bout at UFC Edmonton on Nov. 2, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Diniz is 2-0-0 in the UFC and has yet to lose professionally, but he's about to walk into the biggest fight of his career against Lewis. This should be a fascinating co-main event for the difference in experience alone. Lewis is of course an elite heavyweight, but he has yet to string together back-to-back victories since 2020. Diniz will hope he can continue that streak.

Remains undefeated as pro
Diniz defeated Karl Williams via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Aided by the suspicious inactivity of his opponent, Diniz picked up the biggest victory of his brief MMA career. The Brazilian, as expected, had a massive edge on the feet. He landed plenty of effective low kicks and continued to push forward throughout the course of the bout. That pressure resulted in Williams all but abandoning his grappling game until Round 3, at which point Diniz had already piled up an insurmountable lead on the scorecards. Diniz's grappling is a major, long-term concern, even if Williams wasn't able to take advantage of it here. That said, he's a perfect 2-0 in the UFC, in addition to picking up a win on Dana White's Contender Series.
