ANALYSIS
Give Williams credit -- he knows what his strengths are and leans on them, for better or worse. Well aware that getting into a back-and-forth slugfest with Tafa was a terrible idea, Karl fired off a dozen takedown attempts, connecting on seven. The 10:31 worth of control resulted in a no-doubt decision victory, but Williams still had to survive a couple extremely hairy moments early in Round 3 before planting his opponent on the mat one final time. As a cardio/wrestling guy, Williams has a skill set that can give plenty of heavyweights problems if he is able to consistently get to his grappling game. Karl improves to 3-0 in the UFC, albeit against low-level competition.

One can't help but think he wouldn't have been so lucky if he were going up against an opponent a bit better than Sherman. Williams is 33 years of age and has all of ten professional fights under his belt. His 9-1 record is exceptional, but the Atlanta native has no history of facing quality competition, let alone defeating them. Williams is best viewed as quality roster depth in a deceptively-thin heavyweight division.
