ANALYSIS

Secures second straight win
Aguilar defeated Mateus Mendonca via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Either man could have gotten the call here, and it would have been perfectly acceptable. Aguilar had issues defending the takedown all night long. He gave up 4-of-8 attempts, but to his credit, constantly worked to try to get back to his feet. Aguilar was somewhat fortunate because he didn't land the typical volume on the feet (38 total strikes, 19 significant) and needed to overcome a strong wrestling performance from his opponent, but two of the three judges felt he did enough. Aguilar has won two straight on the heels of a submission loss to top prospect Tatsuro Taira in his UFC debut about a year ago.

Fighting Mendonca in February
Aguilar will fight Mateus Mendonca at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
After a lightning-fast victory over Shannon Ross in his last fight, Aguilar will look to build a winning streak versus Mendonca, who remains winless in the UFC through two fights.

Immediate KO winner at UFC 290
Aguilar defeated Shannon Ross via KO (punch) at 0:17 of Round 1 at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar made his UFC debut this past February, quickly tapping to rising star Tatsuro Taira (who is also on this card) in just over four minutes. He found himself as a minor -140 favorite over the struggling Ross as a result and responded with a perfectly placed overhand right which connected flush and put his opponent out cold before he hit the mat. It was a performance worthy of a post-fight bonus for the 27-year-old, but that didn't officially come to pass given the rest of the card's amazing finishes. At the very least, his roster spot will be safe moving forward. It's the first knockout victory of Aguilar's career.
