Goes to war, emerges victorious
Hafez defeated Mickey Gall via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
As often happens when two grapplers meet, Hafez and Gall stood in the pocket and threw for the better part of their 15-minute fight. In the end, the power of Hafez made the difference, as did his ability to establish control when he brought the fight to the ground. It's still a bit difficult to know what kind of fighter Hafez will be in the organization, as he would be better-served wrestling than brawling, but his ability to engage in any type of fight makes him a welcome addition to the welterweight division. Hafez moves to 9-4 in professional MMA due to the victory,

Given new opponent
Hafez is scheduled to compete against fellow welterweight Mickey Gall at UFC 302 in Newark on June 1, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Hafez's next opponent has not won a UFC or MMA fight in more than two years. However, the downside is that he will likely have to deal with a hometown crowd against his favor, as the aforementioned fight is scheduled to take place in Gall's home state of New Jersey. Still, with a 1-0 UFC record, Hafez has momentum on his side.

Pulls out of fight with Parsons
Hafez withdrew Wednesday from his scheduled welterweight fight against Preston Parsons at the UFC's Jan. 13 event in Las Vegas due to an unspecified reason, James Lynch of Sportskeeda.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The promotion has added Matthew Semelsberger to the Jan. 13 card to face Parsons in Hafez's stead.

Slated to fight Parsons
Hafez will fight Preston Parsons at UFC Vegas 83 on Jan. 13, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Hafez took a loss in his UFC debut against Jack Della Maddalena, and he will now get a chance to bounce back against Parsons, who is also coming off a loss in his most recent fight. Both fighters will surely be desperate to avoid falling further below .500.

Epic effort in late-notice debut
Hafez lost to Jack Della Maddalena via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 49 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Making his UFC debut on days' notice as a +425 underdog, Hafez deserves all the credit in the world and then some for nearly pulling off such a monumental upset. He came out like a house of fire, taking Della Maddalena down just seconds into the bout. Hafez attempted 20 total takedowns, landing three. Hafez was predictably overwhelmed whenever JDM was able to work his way back to his feet and create distance for any length of time, but that doesn't mean Hafez didn't land his fair share of power shots. He continued pushing forward the entire fight, trying to limit Jack's space, but the energy level predictably dropped as the bout progressed. Two of the three judges likely got this one correct, but Hafez earned a ton of new fans in the process and is now a lock to receive a long-term trial with the company. He'll also take home an extra $50,000 after this co-main event was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
