The fantasy playoffs start this week and all of our start/sit choices are under a magnifying glass, as its possible that one wrong choice could send us home with our tails between our legs. While I certainly would never use a WR/CB matchup as the sole deciding factor in a start/sit, it can definitely be helpful as a tiebreaker. Let's get into the good, bad and interesting matchups for Week 14.
DeVante Parker vs. Stephon Gilmore
Parker came up big last week with an impressive leaping touchdown grab in traffic, and I am pretty excited to see him shadowed by Gilmore. The first time these two teams played, Parker was not an active part of the team but after his seven-target performance, I expect Gilmore to stick to Parker like glue. Gilmore did get beaten by Corey Davis this year, a very similar player to Parker, but overall is only allowing 0.24 fantasy points per route run against.
Kenny Golladay vs. Patrick Peterson
Another of the few true shutdown/shadow corners, Peterson, will draw the matchup against Golladay this week. The Rams did a fantastic job limiting Golladay last week, allowing him to catch only three of his eight targets and really frustrating the Lions offense as a whole. The Arizona defensive unit is not as good as the Rams, but they do have a unique weapon in PP to throw at Babytron. JuJu Smith-Schuster vs. Daryl Worley & Gareon Conley
Antonio Brown is coming off a huge week but in general, I am more intrigued by JuJu. He's younger, faster and more efficient. For DFS purposes, he is always has lower ownership than AB84 and I think he will benefit in this matchup. Worley allows 1.77 yards per route run against and Conley, even after limiting Tyreek Hill last week, allows 1.63 yards per route run against. My assumption is that one of the two Steelers wideouts will top 30 fantasy points this weekend and my money is on JuJu.
Michael Gallup & Amari Cooper vs. Philadelphia CBs
Gallup has flashed several times throughout the year the elite ability that had the Cowboys pass on Courtland Sutton in order to draft him. Last week was a big game for him on a national stage and the week before, Amari made mincemeat of the Washington secondary. The Eagles are struggling with a situation where their three projected starting CBs this week are former depth players who have combined for less than 400 routes defended all year, because their secondary is so banged up. Dallas does most of their damage on the ground, but this is an opportunity for them to progress the ball using their talented boundary wide receivers.
Apple has been a much better and more efficient defensive player since getting traded to the Saints, but is still one of the three most targeted cornerbacks in the league. Godwin is now a full-time offensive player for the Bucs due to DeSean Jackson's injury, and we all love his game. Apple is allowing 0.37 fantasy points per route run against and almost two yards per route run against, which sets up as quite a nice spot for young Godwin.
