Free Agency Fallout: Day 2

  • Odell Beckham heads to Cleveland in exchange for a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and Jabrill Peppers. Beckham's ADP generally rested in the late second round before Tuesday (19.07 BB10/20.6 DRAFT), but in Cleveland the Baker Mayfield offense will take Beckham to new heights, even with Jarvis Landry, David Njoku, and others around. Eli Manning is well beneath 'below average,' and now Beckham gets a looming top-five quarterback. Beckham will torch. Mayfield averaged 282 yards and 2.38 touchdowns per game under Freddie Kitchens last year, and everything just got easier.  If you take Beckham in late first round he will not hurt you. With Odell no longer in New York, Sterling Shepard (103.93 BB10/119.7 DRAFT) will take on an enormous workload in 2019, and Evan Engram figures to benefit similarly. Beckham's arrival is bad news for Antonio Callaway and Breshad Perriman, on the other hand.
  • Latavius Murray agreed to a four-year deal with New Orleans. Alvin Kamara is the truth and Murray is probably less of a threat for snaps than Mark Ingram was, but Murray brings certain tangible skills that make him a desirable target in New Orleans' generous system. Who knows where his ADP will settle – as of press time it was 156.3 on DRAFT and 180.64 on BestBall10s – but it will scream upward and in a weak rookie running back class it might end up in the seventh-round range, and perhaps with good reason. Murray isn't exactly elusive

Who knows where his ADP will settle – as of press time it was 156.3 on DRAFT and 180.64 on BestBall10s – but it will scream upward and in a weak rookie running back class it might end up in the seventh-round range, and perhaps with good reason. Murray isn't exactly elusive but he can catch the ball and runs hard, and if he has open-field room he can tap into decent long speed. If the Saints are good, Murray should be pretty good too.
  • John Brown agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal with Buffalo. Target consistency won't be a hallmark trait of the Buffalo offense, but Brown adds meaningful firepower to a scheme where Josh Allen's ability to hit either end zone corner from almost any part of the field is the foundational threat. Brown will push the safeties just as Robert Foster will, and both players will have defensive coordinators nervous every single play. I'm mostly inclined to wait and see where Brown's market goes, because Foster is a strong prospect and it's not a given that Brown displaces him.
  • Cole Beasley agreed to a four-year, $29 million deal with Buffalo. Whereas Brown is a good fit for Josh Allen's skill set, Beasley at 5-foot-8 doesn't look like a great fit in the slot. If any quarterback demanded a big slot receiver, Allen and his coin-flip short-range accuracy would be a classic case. Beasley is good and Allen will make plays, but Foster + John Brown are clearly the better candidates to receive Allen's production.
  • Zach Zenner agreed to a one-year deal with Detroit. Kerryon Johnson's knee injury shouldn't be an issue going forward, but there might be a significant off-the-bench running back role to be had in Detroit. Zenner is well-built with strong linear explosiveness, and he has passing-down skills otherwise. He's mostly a handcuff to Johnson, which is to say not valuable in the vast majority of cases, but Zenner is capable and present. He turned 55 carries into 265 yards (4.8 YPC) and three touchdowns last year, and he ran for over 2,000 yards in each of his last three seasons at South Dakota State.
  • Cordarrelle Patterson agreed to a deal with Chicago. Patterson must be a bad route runner because he's fast and incredibly elusive, yet no one seems to want to feature him in their offense. Chicago will likely prove no exception as far as that goes, and with all of Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, Tarik Cohen, Trey Burton, and Adam Shaheen fighting for targets, Patterson seems ticketed for a depth and kick returning role. There is some chance he might see running back reps, though, so he's worth keeping a close eye on. He's a problem if you give him the ball.
