Mock Auction II Draft Results: RE

Just over two weeks ago I shared the results of my first mock auction for the 2012 season.  Since then, we compared the results from the second mock auction at QB and RB.  Today we look at RE, which includes some shocking variances with regard to player value.  Over the next few days we will do the same at TE, PK and TDSP.

As a reminder, this is a 10 team auction, with each team given $200 to draft a 14-man roster that includes 2 QB, 3 RB, 3 RE, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB, WR or TE), 1 PK, 1 TDSP and 2 RES.

The wide receiver position saw the most volatility between auctions, with four of the top 10 in draft one falling out of the top 10 in draft two, and two of the next 10 receivers dropping out of the top 20 completely.

Although Calvin Johnson was the top bid in both auctions, A.J. Green shot up $21, from $24 to $45, just $1 less than Megatron.  Victor Cruz rose from $20 to $38.  Meanwhile, Wes Welker went for just $17 after going for $43 in draft one, and Roddy White slipped from $36 to $18.

Could Welker's failed contract talks cause his value to drop so much so fast?
Has Cruz' promise to come to camp regardless of his contract situation given fantasy owners more confidence in him?

Of the 55 receivers originally drafted, only two -- Titus Young ($3) and Nate Burleson ($2) – failed to earn bids the second time around, and only four new names emerged -- Denarius Moore ($6), Justin Blackmon ($2), Vincent Brown ($2), Doug Baldwin ($1).

After I run down the draft results at all positions I'm going to wait until early August, when pre-season games begin, before conducting the next mock auction draft to see how player values change.

Until then, please share your thoughts on these drafts, player values, or anything else that is on your mind heading in to the 2012 fantasy football season.
