Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

STARTING PITCHER

Charlie Morton, HOU at SEA ($46): There is a real haves and have-nots quality to the pitchers in action Wednesday, so you may find yourself needing to shell out some bucks to fill that position in your lineup. Fortunately, Morton seems like a great bet to pay off. He has a 2.78 ERA, and on the road he's actually been even better (2.66). Morton has also remade himself as a strikeout pitcher, as he has whiffed 11.07 batters per nine innings. The Mariners are in the bottom third in terms of run scored, so the matchup isn't too daunting either.

Lance Lynn, NYY at MIA ($34): Lynn seems to be an inexplicably new man with the Yankees. In four games he has a 2.61 ERA and a 1.60 FIP. He will likely regress, but it probably won't be versus the Marlins. Miami ranks 29th in runs scored, and has the league's worst OPS (.669).

CATCHER

Kevin Plawecki, NYM vs. SF ($12): Plawecki hasn't gotten to play much in his career, but over the last two seasons he's put up notable numbers. This year he has a .754 OPS and is currently the ostensible starting catcher for the Mets. Casey Kelly has looked good for the Giants in limited action this season (a mere 10.2 innings), but his career ERA is still a woeful 5.70.

FIRST BASE

Jesus Aguilar, MIL vs. CIN ($15): By this point, even if Aguilar isn't a big name you should know he's bashing the ball. He's posted a .946 OPS and has hit 29 homers in 115 games. He's been even better recently, as he has a 1.022 OPS over his last 14 games. Robert Stephenson has only made two starts this season, but they've both gone extremely poorly. The man has a 7.94 ERA. Even over two games that's abysmal.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN at MIL ($15): Gennett will look for "revenge" against his former team, and he's put up the kind of numbers that make you think he'll do just that. He has a .313 batting average, his best since an abbreviated rookie season, and has a .497 slugging percentage. The 28-year-old also hits righties particularly well. Brewers rookie Freddy Peralta knows how to strike guys out, but he also has a 4.48 ERA.

THIRD BASE

Eduardo Escobar, ARI vs. LAA ($21): Escobar was performing well in Minnesota before being traded (.852 OPS) , and since he's been with the Diamondbacks his numbers have been even better (.886 OPS). On top of that, he's now playing his home games in Arizona's ballpark, which is very offense friendly. Angels starter Odrisamer Despaigne has a 6.29 ERA this season, and in his career the 31-year-old has a 4.84 ERA.

SHORTSTOP

Willy Adames, TAM vs. KC ($14): The 22-year-old rookie Adames has had his struggles in his 51 games of MLB action, but he comes with some prospect pedigree. He's also been solid against righties, at least for a shortstop, posting a .702 OPS with six homers and five stolen bases in those matchups. Jakob Junis is right handed, and he also has a 5.04 ERA. The Royals starter has also given up 1.77 home runs per nine innings, and Adames has shown to the potential to show off a little power.

OUTFIELD

Juan Soto, WAS vs. PHI ($20): Soto's rookie season has been immensely successful by any measure. He has a .290/.413/.518 slash line, and he's hit well against righties, lefties, at home, or on the road. There seems to be nothing he can't do with his bat, and he has 15 homers in 81 games to boot. Zach Eflin has a 3.81 FIP, and in his career he has a 4.88 FIP and has allowed 1.64 homers per nine innings.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. SD ($17): Blackmon's numbers are a little down this year, but that's mostly because of issues on the road. At home, the 32-year-old has a .902 OPS, which is not surprising given Coors Field's predilection for yielding homers. Rookie pitcher Jacob Nix looked good in his debut start, but in his last game he gave up five runs and didn't get out of the first inning. Both of those starts were at home as well. This is an entirely different situation.

Gregory Polanco, PIT vs. ATL ($15): Polanco has averaged 7.0 fantasy points per game, even though his batting average is .241, the lowest of his career. However, he has hit 20 homers and picked up nine stolen bases in 116 games. Polanco has also managed a .512 slugging percentage against righties. Julio Teheran, a righty, has a 5.20 FIP this season and has given up 1.55 homers per nine innings. He's also struggled on the road, netting a 4.73 ERA in those outings.
