Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's 15-game MLB slate has an unusual 6:40 PM Eastern start time. The suggested pitchers in this slate come from different regions of the price spectrum, but both are in position to bounce back in favorable matchups after not having their best stuff last time out. For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well). To join those channels, e-mail [email protected].

PITCHER

David Price, BOS vs. BAL ($51): Price struggled at Yankee Stadium in his last outing, but the Yankees have always had his number and Baltimore can't come anywhere near matching New York's firepower offensively. Even with that rough outing, Price is 5-1 with an outstanding 2.00 ERA in 10 starts since the All-Star break. Throw in his 24.5 percent strikeout rate, and Price's upside is massive against an Orioles team that scores the fourth-fewest runs (3.85) and strikes out 11th-most (8.65) per game.

Matt Harvey, CIN vs. KC ($33): Like Price, Harvey was far from his best in his last appearance. The former Mets starter had been rolling prior to that hiccup, though, posting quality starts in each of his previous three outings while allowing just five runs and posting a 19:4 K:BB over 18 innings. He gets a golden opportunity to bounce back at home against a Royals lineup that's averaging just 3.91 runs per game -- sixth-fewest in the league.

CATCHER

Aramis Garcia, SF vs. SD ($17): Garcia's done his best Buster Posey impression with a .341/.341/.585 line through 41 plate appearances. Expect the right-handed slugger to keep rolling against Padres lefty Robbie Erlin, who has a 6.66 ERA in 11 appearances as a starter this season.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE at CWS ($19): Encarnacion has been better in righty-on-righty matchups than against lefties this season, producing a .352 wOBA in the former split and just a .325 mark in the latter. Those unique splits make the 35-year-old slugger a strong choice against 36-year-old White Sox right-hander James Shields, who has surrendered a .351 wOBA in righty-on-righty situations.

SECOND BASE

Wilmer Difo, WAS vs. MIA ($12): The switch-hitting Difo is significantly better from the left side, with a .307 wOBA against righties this season and a paltry .206 mark facing lefties. That .307 wOBA doesn't seem like much, but it climbs to a much more impressive .375 in 151 home at-bats against right-handed pitching. Difo's success at Nationals Park (1.14 park factor) should continue against rookie Marlins starter Jeff Brigham, who has a 5.84 ERA and 7.05 xFIP in his first 12.1 major-league innings.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN vs. KC ($14): Suarez is in the midst of an incredible campaign against left-handed pitching, with a .434 wOBA over 147 at-bats in that split this season. He has a great opportunity to further build on that number against Royals southpaw Eric Skoglund, who has a 5.60 ERA and 5.05 FIP in 62.2 innings.

SHORTSTOP

Manny Machado, LAD at ARI ($21): Righty-on-righty matchups have not been kind to Diamondbacks starter Matt Koch -- the 187 right-handed batters to face Clay Buchholz's replacement in the rotation this season have a whopping .405 wOBA. Machado's a terrific candidate to produce against him, as the right-handed slugger hits pitchers from both sides about evenly (.373 wOBA against righties, .390 versus lefties). Chase Field's 1.05 park factor also works in Machado's favor here.

OUTFIELD

Max Kepler, MIN vs. DET ($10): Kepler has done his best work at home, producing a .397 wOBA in 173 at-bats against righties at Target Field. The left-handed slugger should have no problem excelling against Tigers rookie Spencer Turnbull, who allowed six earned runs over four innings to the Twins in his first major-league start last Wednesday.

Jose Martinez, STL vs. MIL ($14): Right-handed hitters have enjoyed success facing Brewers southpaw Gio Gonzalez, with a .336 wOBA against him this season. While Martinez only has a .331 wOBA against lefties this year, his .406 career mark suggests he's capable of much more in that split.

Shohei Ohtani, LAA vs. TEX ($26): Ohtani's first season in North America has featured plenty of success against fellow righties -- a .431 wOBA to be exact. The right-hander he's set to face here is among the most vulnerable in the entire league, as Texas' Yovani Gallardo has a disastrous .413 wOBA allowed to batters from the right side.
