Closer Watch
The Giants closer situation has been in a small state of disarray with Santiago Casilla missing the past few games due to a bruised tibia. Sergio Romo picked up the save on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs, pitching a clean 0.2 innings with a 2-0 lead with one strikeout. Then, on Monday, the Giants called on Jeremy Affeldt for the save. Affeldt pitched the final two innings with a one out lead and struck out two Cubs hitters. Fortunately the Giants and unfortunately for those looking for saves in their fantasy leagues, it looks as though Casilla should avoid the DL. There might be another save or two up in the air before Casilla is fully healthy, but it's probably not worth an add.

Recommended Pickup
Michael Fiers, P, MIL: By no means is this a sexy pickup, but Fiers is a solid pitcher who could help a team short on starting pitching. Fiers, a 22nd round pick in 2009, has moved through the minors quickly with some very good stats. He relies strongly on control, and had an excellent 4.07 K:BB ratio throughout his minor league career. That has carried over to the majors, where he currently has an 11.00 K/BB ratio after two starts. He also has a career 2.80 minor league ERA. His only issue in his first two major league starts was a big inning from the Pirates where they hit two home runs off of him. That should not be a trend as Fiers never has not had home run troubles in the past. He has drawn comparisons to the Diamondbacks' Josh Collmenter, who had a nice rookie year last season. Fiers has a very deceptive pitching motion which should help him when facing a team for the first time, as well. With Marco Estrada due back from injury sometime soon, Fiers may be fighting to keep a rotation spot and push Estrada into the bullpen. Fiers has nothing left to prove in the minors, so it could be the Brewers best move.

Other Recent Recommendations: Felix Doubront, Vin Mazzaro, Justin Smoak, P.J. Walters, Colby Rasmus
