Closer Watch

Mariners - Oliver Perez recorded his first save of the season for the Mariners on Friday against the Athletics. Tom Wilhemlmsen has been the Mariners closer, and has recorded a healthy 16 saves, but has been in a downward spiral since the beginning of June having giving up an earned run in four out of his last six appearances, with a five runs given up his last time out. It will be interesting to see if Wilhemslen, Perez, or maybe someone else takes to the mound in the Mariners next save opportunity.

Marlins - The last Marlins roster other than Steve Chisek that had recorded a save was Mike Dunn on May 19. It is basically safe to say at this point that the job belongs to Chisek, but that doesn't hold much fantasy value as the Marlins are one of the worst teams in baseball right now, and don't find themselves in the position to win a game going into the ninth inning very often.

Key Matchups

Miguel Gonzalez, P, BAL - Sporting a 3.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, with 52 strikeouts, and four wins over 68 innings, Gonzalez has proven that he is worth a look in most fantasy leagues. Not many owners can overlook the fact that Gonzalez has pitched a quality start in eight out of his 11 starts thus far, and that includes five out of his last six. Gonzalez doesn't quite have the same hype machine that recent recommendations Gerrit Cole and Zack Wheeler do, and with good reason, but if you are in the market for another starting pitcher Gonzalez may be a nice consolation prize if he is still available on the waiver wire.
