Sanchez returned from an elbow injury last week. He has posted an 18.00 ERA in three relief appearances with High-A Lakeland since his return.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will likely move up to Triple-A Toledo after he gets back into shape, and he could be a relief option for the Tigers later this season if he has success with the Mud Hens.

After serving briefly as a closer and giving up just 14 hits in 30 innings in 2011, Sanchez fell back to earth last year, and he has his walk rate to thank for it. He's now walked 29 in 45 MLB innings, and he hasn't fared a whole lot better in the minors. He's still young, but the Cardinals have a lot of talented flamethrowing relievers in the pipeline, so unless Sanchez works out his control problems, he may get passed by.
It was a memorable year for Sanchez, who made his big-league debut in April, closed for a little while, hit the 60-day DL with a shoulder injury, pitched one game in September and then earned a World Series ring. Overall his numbers were strong in his rookie season, as he gave up just 14 hits in 30 innings and struck out 35. He'll likely play a significant role in the St. Louis bullpen again in 2012, especially if he can keep his batting average against as low as it was last year (.144).
Agreed to a minor league contract with the Cardinals in January 2010.
